Side View Cameras- Pics

Started a new post with the pictures of the side view cameras on our new X6.
They activate view a switch in the lower right of the console, next to hill decent, parking assist off, etc. Image is a split screen showing the car in the garage next to the X6 and the vac hose on the wall.

I wanted those!! I missed it by 3 weeks!

I wonder if they're retrofitable.

I'm a little disappointed I missed out on these, but what is their real purpose? When do you use them?

A few things come to mind...When parking, allows you to see curb and edge of road easily. When inching out into traffic (driveway with parked cars in the way), gives you 5 more feet of viewing ahead of the driver. Here is the midwest, snowbanks are often above 3-5 feet tall in spots, so useful when pulling out there too. Also good for narrow parking spots to judge distance to let's say a parking structure wall or column. They also integrate into the Top View to show more area around the vehicle as well.

Good points.

What strikes me as odd, is that when I did the factory tour in late july, I saw the X6's coming down the line with the side view cams. They were not in the location you have them in your pics. They were integrated into the orange reflector.

Apparently we're all seeing different things. :-)

The location of the cams in these pics is very un-bmw-like

I agree. I thought they would be more integrated into a trim piece or molding, not just in their own "cutout."

Also, that looks like a huge lens compared to the rear and side mount cameras on the rear view mirrors on my 2010 X6
