Angry X6 Engine Problems

I have a 2008 X6 with the twin turbo six. The car has approx. 27K miles. The engine mafunction light has come on numerous times resulting in 4 rides in the cab of a tow truck. They have replaced the injectors but I am not really sure what else they have done as they haven't been completly candid regarding the source of the continuing problem. I am ready to dump this car and ask BMW for financial re-imbursemet, under California's Lemon Law. Having been stranded four times, I don't wish to have the experience again.
Can anyone suggest a solution or give me some insight as to the source of these engine problems.

sounds like your N54 engine is having the dreaded HPFP problems (common to the 135, 335, and 535)...not sure if in CA there's a time or mile maximum on when you can lemon your car, but I would definitely look into it..

more info regarding hpfp problems can also be found on e90posts, as early 335's also have the N54 engine.

you can post in the e90posts regional section of FI section for a lawyer suggestion...

For what it's worth.....I'd make a small wager your problem may be due to your gasoline. Had the problem myself on about 8 occasions. All I did was pull over, shut it down, wait about 30 seconds and restart. Problem cleared its self. I run Shell 93 Octane and it keeps the problem away. Too much ethanol in the gas, over 10%, I'm told, does not allow the turbo chargers to run hot enough, thus the problem.

i've read a few threads about the ethanol content theory, but how can you explain EU N54 owners having hpfp failure then as well? Ethanol in EU gas is not included....

I do hope it's that simple tho for you OP..and it's not your HPFP...but I've read a few posts of early X6 models with the N54 engine also having hpfp failures...and your syptoms are similar...

Ask for the puma case file to see what work was specified by BMW warranty service .

California law states after three times (same issue) lemon law kicks in. Or if a problem takes more than 30 days to resolve.

Ask for a courtesy buy back. This is nuts.

BMW will give most of your money back and put you in a new car way below cost. Why would you put up with this kind of issue for so long?

is there a time limit or mileage limit? I know other states have those regulations...

For what its worth I had the same issue with a 2010 X6 5.0i with the 7RR engine upgrade. At around 300 miles I started getting error messages. Took the car in numerous times and they told me it was ethanol. The 3rd time it happened (after putting in only Shell V-Power) they finally did the PUMA route and replaced all the fuel-injectors. That seemed to take care of the problem completely in my case.

wow, so even the newer TT V8 engines are not invulnerable..I was hoping these cases would only be specific to the N54 engine...that's a shame...
