Wheels for 2007 E70

I have a 2007 X5 E70 4.8i with the standard 20" 315's on rear, 275's on front. I would like to switch to an 18" or 19" non run-flat wheel that will allow me to rotate the tires for more even wear, be able to drive on snow and ice if needed and possibly have a smoother ride. Any advice on how to improve the ride and wear, but still have decent looking wheels that are not as costly as the 20" wheels that I have now?

I Just bought a new 2013 X5 that came with the new BMW Style 334 wheels 19X9 on fronts and backs. I haven't taken them off yet but they don't appear to be directional tires so I should be able to rotate them freely.

They drive so smooth (coming from 19" wheels on my 3 series with low profile tires) it is such a difference.

might be worth considering... I have seen them slightly used on line with brand new tires for about $4,000 (not sure what BMW charges for them brand new)

In a similar boat on my 2012. Plan is to go to 19s, 255/50/19 all around. Saw another car in the garage that did it and it looked fine.

I am using 298 style rims all around. 177s would work too for you and you can find them at reasonable prices

Your x5 probably has style 214 wheels. If they are in good condition you should be able to sell them for enough money to cover 18" or 19" wheels and tires (like style 120, 211, or 209). 214 are still very desirable wheels.

You should take a look at something like tirerack.com for their options, youll find something for any budget there. Buying used wheels with an enthusiasts premium is absurd

i think style 334 looks the best for 19's. You have the fender flares from your 20's sports package, so with 19s, they'll look pretty good even from the rear view despite non-staggered rears.

Note, going to 19's won't save you THAT much money though. You'll get many more winter options to choose from, and as you said you can now cross rotate your tires. 18's are where you get substantial cost savings. The difference between 18s and 20s for the same tire can be around $100 each. The difference between 19s and 20s are like $50 each. But I get it, a penny saved is a penny earned, but you can also wait for deals on the 20s as well.

For my CA winter setup, I was able to get a full set of all-seasons Nitto Motivos on staggered 20's OEM sizes for $750 shipped from Discount Tire.

If I had to drive in snow, I would buy a set of OEM 18s style 209 wheels and buy dedicated snow tires. You can get used 209 wheels for a song.
