There might be some confusion about the recall also. I was under the impression that it wasn't a recall but just a visual inspection.

When I check www.bmw-rp.com/ with the vin LK26820 (build date 2010-11-18), there's program for the reimbursement

Also JD power had this

2011 BMW X5, X5 M
2011 BMW X6, X6 M, X6 Active Hybrid
•Number of vehicles affected: 21,493
•Date of manufacture: April 7, 2010 to November 17, 2010
•Issue: Certain 2011 BMW X5 xDrive 35i, X5 xDrive50i, X5 M, X6 xDrive35i, X6 xDrive50i, X6 M, X5 xDrive35d, and X6 Active Hybrid vehicles have a front driveshaft universal joint that may not seal out water and debris from getting in and damaging the joint, which could lead to its failure. If the front universal joint fails, the front wheels would not be driven, affecting vehicle traction. Additionally, continued driving of the vehicle with a broken front universal joint may damage other components. Either condition may increase the risk of a crash.
•Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driveshaft free of charge.
•Timing: The recall is expected to begin on July 1, 2016. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
•NHTSA recall number: 16V311000

And then there's was an addition earlier this year to include MY2012-2013 up to april 2013

Yeah, I'm not completely sure. My letter stated that the warranty on my driveshaft was extended beyond what the factory offered, don't remember how long. It did not even speak to a visual inspection. All I gathered out of it is, if it breaks, they'll cover it.

When I enter my VIN here, LK26804 (we're only 16 vehicles away from each other ) it only shows open recalls for the airbags. No mention about the driveshaft.

All I know is that I'm almost hoping that it snaps at high speed and ruins my engine and transmission...wouldn't mind getting those replaced.

You vin has a reimbursement program in place. Also, I still believe your driveshaft has to be changed unless it was already done.

Your date is in the range of april 07th and nov 20th 2010 as per the nhtsa bulletin. I would bug your dealer until they acknowledge it.

As for the vin, I just picked one around your time frame. Mine was built in june 2013

I'm out of the updated range of vin of February 4, 2010 through April 22, 2013.
