From Cayenne GTS to X5M?
Guys,
New here and need a little advice. My current daily is a '13 Cayenne GTS which I love. Fun car is a 1100whp GTR. Recently, I was offered a one-owner 2011 X5M (loaded; original MSRP $99k) with 30k miles, plus $22k cash for my GTS. The M has exhaust, Dinan suspension, wheels, and other little tasteful mods. Car fax is clean. Very, very nice X5. My GTS was also $99k, but is missing ventilated seats, rear heated seats, 4-zone climate control, and keyless entry. Options the M has. I like the looks of the X5, but love the looks of the Cayenne. I'm also a huge fan of the Porsche's interior. I had an X5 with the turbo 6 as a rental over the holidays, and enjoyed it. It drove nicely and felt light on its feet. I also had a X1 for a couple months when they first came out, and also liked it...so I'm somewhat familiar with the feel of the newer X vehicles. That said, I realize the X5M will be much faster than my current GTS is, and will have a few more options. My biggest concern is the interior and quality of a 30k mile X5M. Do these things have rattles or other annoying issues as miles creep up? I already expect mpg to be bad to what I'm compared to (I average 21 mpg in my GTS), but I can live with that for the extra performance. I just don't want to get the vehicle and be disappointed in the build quality. Understanding that BMW is a great manufacturer, I've never owned a BMW with this many miles before, so that's why I'm curious. I'm also scared I'll miss my GTS. If I do this, I plan on keeping the X5 for a yer, and then picking up a '15 X5M when they come out, or a Cayenne Turbo, depending on which one I like better. Has anyone owned a 958 Cayenne that can give me some advice here? Thoughts/opinions from any X5M owners are welcome. Thanks.

If you have a 1100 hp gtr you wont be worrying about averaging 13mpg on an x5m.
The x5m is a great car I love mine, but if I was you id wait till 2015 and get me a newer x5m |

That's a good point. Regarding the '15 X5M, what changes will be made to it? Is there somewhere I can find comprehensive info? Thanks.

Yes..it will have the all new body look, and the interior will be much better, the engine will be much powerful....my friend has the new 2014 X5 which he got tuned last week and that thing is super fast, I think it got bumped up to 510hp-530hp with tune....I cant imagine what the newer x5m would do

The X5m will be under new car warranty for the year you own it so you don't need to worry about any interior earthed that would come.
I picked up a 47K mile x5 a few months ago and no creeks. I've even taken the door panels off to wrap the trim and no rattles still. I have a stage 2 35xdrive can't even imagine how fast a tuned x5m would be. I need stronger breaks haha |

OP I crossed shipped just like you. I was really interested in the GTS and spent a good chunk of time in it. The handling is amazing for those that have never driven one. I mean almost zero body role.
X5M however will feel a lot faster. Since you know what speed is with the GTR, the X5M definitely has the grunt. And if its already modded for you that's a bonus. I ended up getting a 2011 X5M in August last year and have had zero regrets. Granted its in the shop right now getting about 8-9k in parts and labor from stock components that just went bad. Great news is that with BMW I am paying ZERO out of pocket. I love this SUV OP and so will you. I think switch it up. The interior is very simple compared to the GTS interior. I love that Carmen red seat belts and stitching! With the Dinan suspension the car will handle very well and always prefers to be in M MODE personally. Car just drives better when using the paddles. Good luck OP but personally if you are thinking for a year + just go with it. |
