No on 2009. Maybe look for a used 2010 50i? Or, get the new 35i. They handle good, and now have the new more efficient single turbo 6. This would give you the best mileage for sure.

I drove both the '11 xDrive35i and the '09 xDrive50i and ended up buying the '09 xDrive50i.
The turbo-charged inline-6 is awesome and when paired with the 8-speed automatic it has no problem getting up the road, but the turbo V8 is just SOO much FUN to drive. It's like it has a bottomless pit of pull. The wide-eyed look on everyone's face when you put your foot down is worth the price of admission alone. That said, if this was a daily driver, I'd probably stick with the 35i. Both X6's are going to have the DPC differential (Dynamic Performance Control) as that's standard, but if the '09 has Adaptive Drive then that might seal the deal for me. It gives the X6 that coupe-like handling. If I were you, then I'd get the '09 (well within your budget) and then add-on the Performance Aero Kit which greatly enhances the look. I don't know anything about the Touareg, but VW's push down-market would make the long-term value of the semi-upscale image of the Touareg suspect to me. |

but 09 X6 has the old N54 engine and the computer system is old. the NAVI is DVD rather than hardrive based and the resolution is low compare to the 11 X6... also the gear box is 6 speed. New X6 has 8 speed which is smoother and comforter .... thats why Im confusing cuz one of my friend is leaving the country so his 09 X6 50I is a great deal to have (saved 15k compare to the market, almost equal to the trade in value) that is why Im not looking for a 10 X6.. but acutally I think I dont think I need the 4.4 turbocharged engine for casual use ...and the fuckin insurance will going to charge me 4-5hundred per month if I go for this car. (I hate canada) the whole actractive point here is the deal. Touareg costs me 6.7k fully loaded after tax while the old 50I costs me 3-4k cheaper than Touareg.. == Ive asked a lot of my friends and they said I'd better go for a new car since I dont know much about how this driver had done to this car... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :mad0 259: |

I'm not going to convince you to get the '09, its just the decision I made.
It sounds like the X6 is at the top of your price range, and buying new would mean you have to leave off options that you may end up regretting. For instance, there is no way I would be driving any car in Ottawa with leather seats and no seat heater. You need to decide for yourself which options are really necessary and which ones are nice to have. Personally, I wouldn't buy any X6 without heated seats, adaptive drive and a rear camera. I also would need either the premium sound option or the budget for an aftermarket upgrade. YMMV Have you ever driven a Touareg? For the record, the X6 50i has the N63 engine not the N54. |

I have 35i and performance is by no means bad and yet same or better gas millage than X6 active hybrid . The sound of the V8 is what I crave for sometimes. It's a tough decision specially because 35i would have new iDrive and Top view camera and ofcourse the new 8 speed transmision. Last edited by watoowatoo; 11-14-2010 at 09:46 PM.. |

I would go for NEW 35i.
- Better iDrive - 8 - Speed Auto - I have 50i, it drinks gas like I drink water. $65 for about 400-450km here in Edmonton.

It sounds like you are getting a good deal on the 5.0 which is fully loaded vs. the 3.5. I personally would go with 5.0 with sport package but that is what I like. I agree with above: depending in what options you want and consider a necessity, that will help you determine which one is a better fit for you.
And if he is your friend, he should tell you if he has been tracking the car every other weekend! Ha Would NOT recommend the VW. We test drove one when looking for my wife's car, and it was just not as nice/sporty/fast/whatever descriptor you want. |

Actually what's wrong with N54 engine? It is being use in the M 1 series so I am guessing they are keeping the Twin Turbo for the M series. That is why now the new X6 is not having the N54 engine.

What ever you do stay away from the VW touareg. I had the V6 and I was always at the shop getting that thing repaired. I was at the point were I said enough and purchased the X6 35i and I have no regrets at all, well maybe I should have purchased the 50i. Now, the 35i has plenty of power, but you get used to it after a while and want more.

For 60K in canada, I can get a brand new G37S coupe fully loaded, or its rivals. Though, there is no particular type of car Im looking for, either SUV, Sedan, Coupe is ok for me. I just want to use my money to get the right thing. This means that for 60K dollars, I need a 60K thing, not to spend 1/3 of them on its brand n stuff. Also in terms of the practicality of the car, I need it to be able to surive in heavy snow (with snow tires of course). I drive it for work/vacation, so there is also a concern of Fuel economy So thats why I need you guys to convince me why I need to spend like 10 more gallons for 100km (of course I like X6, thats why Im confused) My family does not like Jeep Grand cherokee (cheapness) and Touareg (its a VW at this price and not reliable)... also just in case, the brand new 11 x6 35I is 80K here in canada, its over budget BTW so mainly My concern revolves around Touraeg and 09 X6 50I Im driving 2006 G35X, its a 55k car, and I dont want to spend less n buy a new Jetta or something because the comfortness/luxuriness is not on the same level of my G35 is there any other recommandations? |

I have owned both.....the Touareg is a wonderful car, people would ask me how I liked it and my response was, it was (At that time) the best and worst car I owned. The interior and performance was great (Until I bought the X6) however it was in the dealer 45 times from new till I sold it with 130,000 miles. It was a electrical nightmare. VW offered to replace it at 40,000 miles. Having owned a Toureg and currently owning a X6 there is no question definately go for the X6. If you decide to go with the Touareg get in writing that you wil get a COMPRABLE loaner every time your vehicle is in for service. The dealer felt that everytime they gave me a Hyandai (Spelling ?) from Enterprise that they were doing me a big favor and would keep my car as long as they wanted.
Don't want to scare you, just wanted to share my experience. Best, Brian PS By the way I have the N54 motor in my X6 and did have the high pressure fuel pump failure. |
