issues with 2008/2009 4.8L X5?
I currently have a 2008 335i and have had a lot of headache with it. I'm interested in replacing it either with a 2007/2008 Audi S4 or possibly a 2008/2009 X5 (yeah, I know, 2 totally different vehicles). I'm a little leery of buying another BMW just because I have been pretty unhappy with my current one, but I have always loved the X5. so what are the common issues with these vehicles? everything from mechanical to electrical to the annoying little things that drive you crazy.

Hi. The X5 is a fantastic vehicle and it seems to be hit or miss in terms of reliability. Some people have had no problems while others have had difficulties to various degrees with it.
I've had O2 sensors failed on me, an ignition coil failure, an electrical failure that caused the whole car to stop, an oil cooler failure and more recently a camshaft sensor failure. All these problems were fixed under warranty but I am reaching the end of the warranty in August and I am worried of what next will fail. I have a 2007 4.8i and it is thirsty my friend. Still, I love my X5 and I hope to keep it a long time if I can't get my hand on an X5M. Good luck. |

thanks for the response. I used to drive a Mach 1 Mustang, so I'm no stranger to gas guzzlers.
it seems that the 335 is hit or miss as well. some people have no issues, whereas I've had quite a few. test drove a 2009 xdrive tonight and really liked it. Last edited by alpine24v; 07-30-2011 at 01:09 AM.. |
