E70 diesel won't start.

So this morning my 2010 X5 diesel did not started. It cranks, but engine just won't start. Checked all fuses, filled up DEF tanks, replaced battery etc but still nothing... Ran without problems before, has 100k miles on the clock.

Yesterday before going home after work, I noticed that it took more time for engine to start up, but since it started afterwards, it did not concerned me, but this morning it did not start at all.

Any ideas guys?

So last night I started it with starting fluid. Drove a bit and tried to start it again but still does not start without help of starting fluid. Took it to my mechanic this morning.

Looks like fuel pressure sensor. Should know this afternoon after it gets installed.

Guess what, been more than 2 weeks but my X5 still not fixed. Original mechanic replaced bunch of stuff which did not get it fixed. Took to another mechanic. He called me last night and told me he found that injector on cylinder 6 is bad. He will be replacing it today. Hopefully it helps...

That sucks. I'm guessing your X5 is out of warranty?

I thought everyone says that adding starting fluid to a diesel engine may damage glow plugs?
Do they even work? Reliably?
Is it possible you have bad fuel in the tank? Do you remember fueling up before the troubles?

From my perspective, it seems that your mechanic doens't really know what's wrong, and is just throwing parts at the problem. Kind of like dealerships do.

If I were you, I would spend a few hours to study the process how the BMW diesel engine starts, and trace a problem that way. I bet it will be cheaper for you this way!

It was definitely caused by bad diesel fuel. I already told my mechanic to drain bad fuel from tank. I fueled up in a gas station in which I never fueled up, usually I fuel up only at Shell or BP. Don't even remember why I had to use something else on that day.

That's new in this story. Why are you spending your own money then? If that's what's happening.
Hire a lawyer, sue the gas station (they have insurance) and get your vehicle fixed properly - change the whole fueling system.

I usually try to avoid these mom-n-pap gas stations.

Check relay in the back of the vehicle. These relays go bad often enough. Once it goes bad, car will not start. $10 - $20 part to be replaced. Easy DIY ...

Picking up my X5 today. Got fixed last night. Mechanic drove it home and back to work with no issues. So it was bad fuel injectors.
