There may be others that have turbo upgrades or DIY impellers, but I chose PureTurbos for their reputation. Active Autowerkes has now become a Pure Turbo dealer and already has a tune for the X5M/Pure Turbo Stage 2 setup... Mine is currently being monitored to further their R&D on this combination and they are still tweaking on my tune to reach the next level. My dyno graph is looking very good, so they are wanting to turn up the boost on the next round of data logging... I'm just waiting on the Akra install, new cooler plugs and updated coils before any more logging. |

Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust Finally Installed!!!
The weird thing is that it feels both louder and quieter at the same time. Cold start is obnoxiously louder with downpipes, but also more refined... Sounds almost exactly like a Ferrari f430 between 3-4k rpms under load. Despite having more volume on the outside, it is actually quieter in the cabin and feels very civilized until you stomp on it. There seems to be more lingering exhaust odor whenever moving it in and out of my garage... maybe some of this is the new titanium burning in? Overall, the truck is more responsive and feels stronger than ever! WIN!!! My only complaint is that the valves stay open all the time. It was an issue prior to installing the new Akrapovic. The valves work perfectly on the new exhaust controllers, but somehow the vacuum lines aren't working and I can't find the issue. Some have suggested that the problem is in the tune, but Active says the tune shouldn't effect it... I'm like Its a cool feature that I want to work properly. Does anyone have any idea what I should do to get them operational? Here are all the pieces laid out pre-install: My continuing undercarriage detail... I still have more work to do under there, but I'm pleased with the results so far! I took it into the BMW dealership yesterday to take care of the remaining recalls (airbag and fuel pump). It immediately became the center of attention when I pulled into the service staging area. The techs started coming out front to check it out... they obviously knew that it had been tweaked, yet the service advisors were super cool and loved what I had done to it. Everyone gave it a thumbs up except for that poor guy who was standing at the podium when I fired it up.. I was late picking it up and it had been sitting in the staging area for awhile, so he got to experience the cold start first hand in an area surrounded by tile and other hard surfaces. His face was wrenched as he immediately covered his ears! |

Also love what u've done to undercarriage, looks clean, I'm sure it took a lot of time to bring it to this condition sorry no input on u valves issue but I'm sure u'll figure it out soon!

I hope so, the valve issue has been an ongoing issue that have been driving me nuts for some time. I originally thought that the factory valves may have been locked up due to corrosion or otherwise defective. I was hoping that the Akrapovic would remedy the issue... but the problem is somewhere else. The OEM flaps were fine. |

That undercarriage.
Will the titanium mar? I love the dull color of the titanium instead of crazy shiny SS. Your truck is fantastic.

RDR142's Akrapovic titanium pipes still looks to about the same color as mine (his has a few thousand miles on them already).

Lets recap my progress on the X5M within the 6 months!
First ADV wheel color was done in Matte Bronze... I really liked it when they were a bit dirty. The brake dust actually made them look better instead of worse :dunno::rofl: After about a year with the Matte Bronze, I had the ADV1 wheels refinished in Brushed Gunmetal. I also added Pure Stage 2 turbos, an Akrapovic Titanium exhaust and RK Carbon fiber Intakes!!! :wow: |

Thanks buddy! The package is supposed to arrive today... although it may take a day or two to get it installed.
Meanwhile, I keep admiring your flat-bottomed steering wheel... |

Meanwhile.... a day on the track with both Ms at VIR
You will be pleased to learn that the X5M was able to hold its on against some very fast cars on the track (I guess my motorcycle roadracing experience has paid off)! In addition, I was able to turn almost the exact same lap times as I did in the M4! The X5M is a savage on the straights and not too shabby in the turns either. I hit 140mph on the back straight before getting into the breaking zones... which isnt bad, but I'm sure it is also capable of going much faster and and much deeper into the braking zones with a professional driver. At any rate, I was getting the wave by from Corvette owners, a Porsche 911 Turbo S and a few other fast and even track prepared cars! People would come up to me afterwards and would tell me how they couldn't believe how an SUV was able to get past them on a race track and how violent it sounded as it went by! One guy said that it was shooting flames out the back when I let off, going into turn one! I only wish I had my GoPro to record this (someone stole it ) But, I do have some professional pictures coming that I will share later. |
