Wow! Glad everyone was okay.

Love how the Domino's driver just cruises on through like nothing's going on... Glad he's driving to meet his "30 minutes or less..." SLA lol

glad theyre ok, as for the car...just another reason to avoid the x6. Obviously its just my opinion, but what a massively silly and pointless vehicle.

Cars sometimes have glitches that can cause a fire. It can be an electrical fault in the car itself, or the result of aftermarket parts.

For example, my mom had a 2005 Toyota 4Runner, all of the sudden one night when it was 3 months old and had only 4k miles on it, it caught fire in the middle of the night in the middle of our driveway. Thankfully it didn't get parked in the garage or the whole house would've gone up in flames. The insurance company and Toyota's engineers determined it to be an electrical fault in the ECU. Sometimes shit just happens.

Sometimes sh!t just happens?

That's very scientific considering the long explanation!

BMW will say its due to something aftermarket. Perhaps the wheels caused it.

Good Point .... one of the reasons I never ever mod my car(s) I purchase what I want and leave it stock.

I am glad everyone escaped with just minor burns, haven forbid if this would have accord on a highway at higher speeds.

Jason .... Please let folks here know what the BMW Engineers find ... our next DD will be a SUV and naturally it should be a BMW

This happen to a lot of the SRT 4 when they first released. Would randomly catch on fire when off or driving.

I am glad no one was hurt.
I think this is the first incident in the X6 M history.

Still shouldn't cause that.. no matter what... I'm more curious about aftermarket wiring/meth/nos, etc..

Another interesting thing to note is that the passenger headlight was still on while the car was engulfed in flames. I would hope that the car would blow that explosive device on the battery to cut power to the rest of the car.

This could even be a defective oil line running to the oil cooler. It split and shot oil on a very hot exhaust. The oil emptied out of the engine causing the check engine light and sending the X up in flames.

I don't think it'll happen soon again. Either something was really wrong with this very exact engine or it was some aftermarket. But if I were an X6M owner I wouldn't be scared at all. The car seems to be very popular within the Middle East and Russia for tuning. So all those X6M cars with 700 hp + would already have blown up if this was a major issue for the S63B44. At least that's what I think...
