Paint defects brand new X5!

In two areas on the front bumper near the grills the clear coat is over run. I just took delivery and had the car at the shop doing venture shield bra when these were pointed out to me. I can't believe it would be released from factory without some quality control. So disappointed.

I hope this is not because X5s are being made in the US factory!

take it back to the dealer.

if its just the clear, it should be able to be wet sanded down and then buffed. you wont be able to tell.

if its paint then the same can be done, but it will require some clear coat to be reapplied to the area.

whatever you do make sure that they go this route rather than a repaint, you want to keep the factory paint.

last thing i would ask the dealer, get them to confirm to you that the car never had body work before you bought it.

i hope its the clear and if it is, its an easy fix. frustrating i know but easy to fix and it will look factory when completed.

I would bet that the dealer touched it up after they damaged it. I remember reading that they don't need to disclose that to buyers. Considering the normal BMW fit/finish, there is no way it could leave the factory like that.

Happened to me at delivery but they notified me and paid for the costs to repair it.

if you ask they have to disclose it, its a law i believe. some states only require them to disclose if the repair costs more than $300, but painting a BMW bumper easily exceeds that. plus, most reputable dealers will tell you anyway.

if you want to be sure, find a detailer or autobody in your area and ask them to put a paint depth meter on it. if its not factory the paint on the bumper will be thicker. (at most they will charge you $20 measure the paint, detailer near me will do it for free)

Saw this thread on another forum as well.

You should report to dealership and have a BMW factory authorized body shop repair it. If it happened to me I would also call the BMW factory at Spartanburg and let the head paint guy know about it and see what they say.

They are going to order another car and swap the bumpers for me and I will have a brand new one.
