Has anyone asked BMW to buy the vehicle, mine has been in the shop 3 times for stuff related to this 30 days and counting....2012 with 30K miles...I've lost confidence in the X5 as it's left me stranded on vacation.

Does anyone have any advice on who / how to approach BMW about a lemon buy back?

Hello guys, I recently(3 weeks back) got some VANOS recall done (one day job). Is this(Service Bulletin B001314) applicable to 2011 X5 35i? SA checked and he said there are no open recalls. Do I have to mention about this?

Please advise.

Edit: Never mind. Looks like this is only applicable to X50i

Update...It's been 2 weeks (FEB 9) since I dropped off the truck and finally got a call back from my SA after leaving multiple messages regarding the status of my X...He told me there is a hold on ALL work due to too many 50i's in the shop and not enough parts to go around...They need to order more parts and are no longer taking anymore 50i's until BMW sends them everything needed for this service bulletin...I was told that I would be getting everything on the list replaced(not sure on the timing chain) and having my driveshaft looked at as well...Sounds like I wont be getting my truck back for at least a minimum of another 2-3 weeks

(1st drop off Feb 23) So i got a call letting me know that my 2011 X6 is ready to be picked up, They checked for stretch in the timing chain and concluded that it did not need to be changed. They did however change the oil and replace the drive shaft at no cost. They will be calling me when the replacement injectors come in for replacement. In the mean time they told me it would be safe to drive my X6 until the parts came and the check engine light will be on until they replaced the injectors.

question for those of you getting driveshaft replacements - why is that being replaced? What, if any, symptoms did the X5 have regarding that part failing?

Update...I got a surprise call today from my SA telling me that they were able to finish my truck earlier than I was told...here is what was replaced for the N63 Campaign

-Vacuum Pump
-Fuel Feed Line with Sensor
-Crankcase Vent Valves
-Lower and Upper Vent Pipes
-Hot-Film Air Mass Meters
-Programmed/Encoded Vehicle as per 11-6-14
-Center Partition Bulkhead
-Gaskets and Clamps
-Connecting Lines
-Injectors

Performed the front drive shaft check and found front driveshaft to have excessive rust in swivel joints
-Replaced Front Driveshaft
-Torx Screw
-Hex Bolt

Performed Timing Chain check as per SIB...Found Timing Chain check passed test

-Oil Filter
-BMW Oil 5W-30
-Battery

Comfort Access was inoperable
-2 Keys reprogrammed and now working properly...$80.54

All in all I'm very satisfied with how well the X is driving and how hard it pulls again...The only thing that annoyed me was that it took them over 3 weeks to finish even though I had a really nice 535 M Sport as a loaner

BMW class action

Well after 3 different trips to the shop I have had all of the parts replaced, the vehicle still makes grinding noises in the mornings and idles rough at times. I called BMW corporate to ask about the possibility of a buy back and got a call yesterday to say it does not meet the criteria.....no surprise. However after 35+ days in the shop and numerous service records I would argue that the vehicles value has been significantly diminished. I am going to see a lawyer this week about a "lemon law" buy back however I would encourage us all to think about the reputational damage BMW has done to this car, good luck reselling this car. I think we have a good case for a class action law suit. I am surprised at the comment in this forum about the kind of loaner car BMW supplies and the parts we are getting for free....this is all noise the issue is the car is defective and the resale value is significantly impacted.

Your sig indicates that you have a X5 M ... (assume it is not an 50i m-sport).

How did you get the dealer to apply the N63 engine campaign to your car? It is not intended for the "M" ...

Curious ...

I had everything except timing chain replaced. It was in the shop for 5 weeks. She runs like a whole new vehicle. Plus I'm getting better gas mileage!

Did you buy the car new? Did these 35+ days happen over 2-3 years or was it in the first 6 months. Lemon law and buy backs will not happen if your the second owner or are claiming that the car needs a buy back years into the ownership. I had a buy back but it was in the shop for 63 days straight with in the first 6 months of ownership. and less than 5K miles.

Got my car back over the weekend after the N63 campaign work was performed. My car was in for the campaign in late Jan, and had to get it back in a couple of weeks as I was waiting on parts. Parts arrived and had an appointment for the 11th of march.

- no timing chain replacement,
- no injector replacement (already had index 11)
- no vacuum pump replacement (replaced under factory warranty by previous owner).

Got MAF, low pressure fuel sensor, hoses, etc., and software upgrade to change oil change interval to 10K miles. Tech also test drove for about 30 miles per the campaign requirements.

Boy, what a difference!! I previously had some throttle response/rough downshift concerns at low speeds, and all of it has vanished. The car feels like its new, and is incredible to drive.

I also had an evaporator leak (Band-Aid smell from vents on cold start), and was able to reproduce the problem to the dealer (BMW seattle). 20+ hrs labor and 3 days to fix the the problem (the entire dash has to come off). I'm glad I still have a few weeks of factory warranty left.

Overall, my experience with BMW seattle has been overwhelmingly positive.

P.S Did I mention the BMW M personal care bag given as the "free gift"?

Good to know about BMW of Seattle. I've only just started going there, and so far things have been good, and I slipped my SA a 7lb brisket before thanksgiving last year.

I got my vehicle back after 3 weeks in the shop. Did anybody else notice their idle a little higher than usual?

Has anybody had this service bulletin done in Canada yet?

We are apparently waiting for parts, and the Service Advisor is saying that they will not be giving us a loaner, but rather, they have an arrangement with Enterprise rent-a-car, "if we would want it", never mind anything about a loaner of equal or better value!!!

I wonder if we'll get THE GIFT.......

Meanwhile, the X5 is burning about a litre of oil every 600 miles.....

We get screwed over in Canada compared to US, I'm pretty sure all the BMW dealership has gotten rid of their own fleet of loaners, at least in AB and BC, and are arranging everything through enterprise, there is also a fix flat rate for getting a loaner, I think $25 or $30 if i remember correctly. enterprise has a few BMWs because of this, but they are mostly 323 or x1, the good thing is you get to choose from anything they have available, so it's down to your luck on getting something good

Software

I just got my truck back from the campaign being completed.

I previously had a Velos tune, but unloaded it before I took it in.

Now can I just reload? Would it say on the work order of the software was updated?

Has anyone been through this and reapplied your tune without changes?

Thanks,
Joe

I would not recommend re-applying the tune, as the base map has likely changed, as they do a full update on many things on the car. You will need to contact Velos for steps to reset your turner, pull the new base map, and have them apply the tune to the new base map.

Is this recall for PRE-LCI X5 too? (2007-2010)
