Here's a few more...

The first pic shows the new OEM bulb under the footwell, but the reading lights up above still the old LED.

The second pic is the reading lights after replacing with new OEM LEDs.

And the third, well, just because

Very nice guys, glad to see everyone stepping it up over here.

OEM is really the best there is when it comes to this type of stuff imo. If there is an oem solution I'm going with it. Same with grills and aero parts. Very few aftermarket companies can match an oem product when it comes to fit and finish.

Totally agree, sometimes you pay a little more for OEM but the quality is worth it in the end.

It really doesn't get whiter than these. I would compare them to a fluorescent bulb found in an office building.

The first pic is an example of the group buy bulbs. Second is the OEM. The third is both versions in a side by side (the best I could do!).

No more flickering too!

Do you have part numbers and where you bought the oem bulbs from? Also, any one put led halos in? I'm looking to do the switch in my 07' e70 and I don't want any check control messages.

Part # 63122212788

You can order them from any BMW dealer or online. Many dealers have them in stock so that may be the fastest option.

Cheapest I found was getbmwparts. Plus $10 off orders of $200.

Hi all,
Have now had a few days with the X5. Can someone tell me if the 2 small round map reading lights in the overhead console should have lenses fitted? Mine hasn't - you can see the bulbs, is this correct? If not will be onto the garage, a BMW main dealer.
Its already going in for a couple of issues including the drivers door handle comes nearly all the way out, car has comfort access which is great.
It also has adaptive lighting but the offside light tracks to the nearside on dip and then on main beam it is still pointing to the nearside, not straight ahead, so that is on the list also.

Not only can you see the bulbs, you can also touch them...

Unhappy More issues

Well the sales guy collected the car tonight and left me an X6 loan car.
While checking the door lock he put the key into the key slot to check the operation as the comfort access is intermittent and when he pulled it out the complete barrel assembly came out .
Also one of the sensors on the rear parking sensors now stays permanently on when reverse is selected. at first thought it was dirt/water on the sensor.
Also we have found that on high speed the drivers side wiper arm hits the right hand window pillar
We only collected the car last Thursday and I'm now asking myself whether any pre sales checks (over 120 checks they claim) were carried out at all .
Feeling a bit p****d of at the moment

I just ordered 2 LED kits from Turner Motor Sports for $272.78...After seeing how the OEM LED lights look on these guys trucks compared to the ones I bought from Bimmian, this is a no brainer...my order was just shipped today

You won't regret it. The price is definitely justifiable after seeing them both in person side by side. And most importantly... NO MORE FLICKERING!

I bought some Kolite brand LEDs on Amazon which are 5000K and rated at 200 lumens, and I would guess they look as good as the OEM LEDs (based on the pics). They look great, VERY bright and pure white, and they're $12 a pair which is about half of OEM. Only thing is the dome lights flicker repeatedly during start up. Not a big deal, but kind of odd. Does this happen with the OEM set? Thanks.

For those that are interested, here are some comparison pics. First one is OEM. Second is cheap eBay set. Third and 4th is the 5000K Kolite set from Amazon. I set my camera with a fixed exposure time so it would capture the accurate brightness of each bulb.

Without seeing the brightness in person, I'd say the Kolite (last picture) looks similar to the OEM LED bulbs, but the OEM ones won't flicker at all. That was the biggest justification for me to pay the price.

It's only the dome lights and it's only at start up that it flickers, but it's like a strobe light in your face so it's annoying. I really only need 3 of the OEM LEDs, so if anyone has a few extra to sell PM me. Thanks!

Thumbs up

I purchased 2 sets at ECSTUNING for about $225. Replacing the old bulbs took about 45 minutes, but most of that was the read seat dome/map lights. The color is much different than the dull filament bulbs, but I like the increased light.
Question for others. Did you run into issues trying to use the flat lights? I don't recall where I used them, but many places they strobed. I know I used them in the hatch and maybe the from foot well, but they strobed in all the overhead locations.

I just installed the OEM LEDs as well. All the chips went in the foot well area and no strobe issues for me. No flicker at start up in the dome lights either, nice fade on/off. But, they're still a little blue for my taste. The pics other members have posted look more pure white than mine. I also bought some 5000K Kolite brand LEDs from Amazon which actually look more pure white than the BMW LEDs. I'm wondering if there are different color temperatures. My box says "5700K - Daylight." Can anyone confirm if their box says the same? Here are a couple of pics for comparison between OEM BMW and Kolite. Map light pic: Kolite is on the right. Back seat pic: Kolite is on the left.

It's actually pretty easy to remove the rear map lights if you use the right technique. Took me about 30 seconds of fiddling around to see where it unclipped and trying my trim tool in different ways to pop it out. My car is at the dealer right now so I can't take a pic, but I'll describe what worked for me. Working from the back side of the light assembly (cargo area side) insert your trim removal tool in the center. Mine is sort of L shaped, and I used the short leg of the L between the housing and headliner and the long side facing UP toward the headliner. Kind of the opposite of how you would expect to hold it. Then pressing forward you compress the clip and it just drops down. A pic would probably be much more helpful than this but it'll have to wait until I get my car back, which I hope is soon because the X1 loan I have sucks.
