Thottle lag in DS mode
So I recently had my 08 x5 in for service and mentioned that when coming from a complete stop, when accelerating my car seems to hesitate when I take my foot off the brake and roll into idle mode before pressing the gas pedal. Anyways, not really the issue anymore, they said they fixed the problem, I am guessing with some sort of a software update.
I have noticed now though that when I am in DS mode, I experience the throttle lag that is so very common in regular drive mode. Anyone have any insight or similar problems? Would a simple reset of the throttle fix it? Thanks. |

Had that problem with my last 11' X5 5.0 and was told reset the system will fix the problem, but still even after they reset.

Have this in my 11 35d. Seems a little better in DS mode though.
It's worse if I push the gas pedal more after stop (or almost stop). I think this has to do with transmission starting in 2nd gear, and when you push the gas pedal more, it takes time to switch to 1st or something. Not liking this at all.. |

What if you try the different traction modes - any change? I got to beat the crap out of an X5 at performance delivery and all of the lag I got was actually from the traction control...

Try quickly dabbing the gas pedal (all the way down), immediately releasing it and stepping on it again to accelerate.
Not sure if it's just perception, but when I do it this way, I feel the car more responsive off the line. The lag experienced is mostly due to fuel saving reasons, I've been told on normal D mode, the X5 takes off in 2nd gear, unless coerced. It seems by doing the steps described above, the car tells the CPU to downshift quickly thus providing better acceleration, and increasing responsiveness. |

I get the lag in D, it seems like there's a lag, then a jerk on acceleration when it shifts down to 1st at a stop.
When i put it in 2nd manually, I actually get a better, smoother start. I would like to see if I can get it to start in 2nd to avoid the lag/jerk. |

Drove a 2013 Q7 TDI yesterday (just for fun). 3.0 turbo, 8sp tranny.
My oh my, I will never complain about lag in my x5 35d. The Q7 was horrible. The lag is twice as long compared to my 35d, and unlike in the x5, there's no torque rush after the lag. On the plus side, the Q7 sounded a little better inside - the engine had a nice low bass tone to it, where in 35d, you can hear the diesel grunt on acceleration. But compared to X5, the Q7 was not enjoyable to drive. Felt slow, bulky and rolling sideways. |
