Tuning an X6 x35d

I was wondering if anyone has consider or actually done a chip upgrade on their 35d and if so what things are worth noted before undertaking such a decision.

My brother received his X6 and is considering a chip tune.

Mine is getting the P-Tronic box, here;

I have it on my 635DSport now (same engine) and it makes a hell of a diference in power and economy.

I will be tranfering it on day one.

Never heard of them as a company?

How is it connected, is it something you can do yourself?

For how long time do you use P-Tronic,a year?

I am very interested,but i am affraid of losing garanty and bigger problem to destroy engine...what is your expirience so far?

hEY john do you have any vids of your 635d how it goes ?

Is this P-tronic a PnP ? Is it easy to install it myself ?

No Videos, It takes two minutes to fit, and it transforms the perfomance after about 60 miles use.
It can be taken off anywhere without tools on the roadside if nessecary.
I am declareing it to my insurers once the car arrives (still no word when it's arriving). It makes an improvement on economy when not being thrashed.
You do not get the map wiped out when it goes in for servicing, as many remapped BMWs get the map wiped out on service computers.

PS) a kid can fit it, just one plug to open and it connects between the two simple.

We're coming out with a new sport exhaust for the X6 x35d with carbon fiber tips, it should be up within a few days

Thanks for the info on both fitment and what happens when the car is in getting serviced. I think his decision is made and he is about to order it, though I still think he will remove it when the car is in getting serviced, just in case.

Regarding the performance one can expect, how much of an improvement did it make to the 635d, roughly in seconds from 0-100mph.

Just remember that BMW now claims they can detect when any boost-enhancing device has been used, even after it has been removed.

Also heard that...but how will they prove it... I mean when its time to prove it i guess its because of an broken engine...
Maybe something original break down and give that extra boost...

Well im for sure not an enginer but i think it can be hard for BMW to prove...

Well im for sure not an enginer but i think it can be hard for BMW to prove...

If you search this site I posted the BMW service bulletin.

The latest version of iDrive (CIP 28.x) records the boost high point. So even if you remove the chip, BMW can detect and void warranty.

People need to realize the only Dinan chips approved by BMW are for non-turbo engines.

No 3rd party chip is approved for turbos and you may in fact get a voided warranty.

As far as I am aware these tuning boxes (P-tronic, Spider etc) do not alter the boost, they only increase the fuel pressure. That's not to say fuel pressure variations could be logged (max-min), but I was surprised (a few years ago when I had lots of issues with my X5 4.8is) how little information was actually logged. Times may have changed though.

Just to add to this debate, these tuning boxes make a very worthwhile improvement to the driveability of the 35d. Fuel economy improves by around 4mpg, you can now drive in 'D' and get the kind of responsiveness that was previously only available in 'DS'. Overall it feels a more relaxing engine to use and it pulls harder at higher revs before it runs out of momentum.

It would be interesting to compare a proper remap (which alters boost, fueling duration and pressure) with the simpler tuning box. I wonder how the full remap feels by comparison.
