Personally,
I would get the M model if its within your budget. German cars are going to be pricey regardless to fix. Send the extra money on an extended warranty. You won't regret either option. If you need more space for passengers and trunk space go with the X5M. If not go with the x6M. It also depends on which body style you like more. I traded in my TTRS for the x5M and have regretted for a minute. I miss the crazy acceleration, but what I love about the X5M is that it feels like it keeps pulling well into the 6k RPM range. The TT crapped out around 5500. If you want performance and its a must have the M model is for you. Just make sure the car you are buying is inspected well and you have a service advisor and technician you trust to tell if you something is wrong. |

I went from a 2012 335i to an 2014 X6 35i and am very happy. I ideally wanted an X6M, but figured I would save some money for the time being and put it towards a house. If you can afford an M, I would recommend you go that route. Between the X5M and X6M, it all comes down to personal preference on which you think looks better. I like both, but am partial to the X6M. Best of luck with your decision! |

Look into new BMW Gold or Platinum warranty. CPO is overrated. The X6 35i is overpriced compared to the M's, even with the lower miles.

Definitely not a 3.5 as it looks completely overpriced.
Also, consider leasing a new x6m. There are crazy lease deals now as the body is going to be refreshed next year. I have been offered a $1,275 lease nothing down with 7 MSDs for a $105 k MSRP car. It will cont you $45k in three years to lease vs. $51k you spend now on a used car. Not sure how much you can sell a used 6 year old x6m with 90k miles but may the lease becomes attractive if you don't think you can sell it for more than 10K three years from now. I know M cars take a huge bath on depreciation. |

Hmmm.......I would get the nicest car you can afford. If you go for the M, you'll never ask yourself if you should have gotten the 3.5. But, I would look around for something with some level of warranty.

Straight Up
I love both the BMW x5 and x6, they are both extremely sexy cars. Although, where I live - in LA - there are more x5s and thus x6's are much more unique on the street. Also, the x6 looks like a rocket ship, whereas the x5 is a sexy SUV.
I would go with X6!!... I did go with X6 lol |

X6M hands down. Performance, looks and everything else. As for reliability, none of the used BMW are reliable. They all need a lot of pampering, especially with over 50k miles on them. You may want to check if the electric cooler pump has been replaced on it prior to purchasing, if not, have them replace it. These thing go bad after 50k miles no matter what
