E70 X5M Transfer Case Leak???

I'm getting ready to sell my 2010 X5M and apparently it doesn't want to be sold. I just sprung a small transfer case leak. I have done a lot of searching and can't seem to find any topic like mine.

The leak appears to be coming from the area of the xdrive actuator. All input and output shafts are dry as they should be. Transfer case fluid is accumulating on the body of the actuator itself and they dripping down from there.

A couple of weeks ago I tried to tackle the problem. I removed the actuator and replaced the seal where the actuator motor and transfer case meet (the seal you have to remove when change the gears inside of the actuator) believing that would solve my problem. I guess it didn't. The arrow shows the area of accumulation on the actuator.

Has anyone had this issue? How was it fixed? Any suggestions from anyone else? I want to make sure this is tackled before the car goes to a new owner... It's been a fun few months of maintenance... fixed the leaking AC evaporator too

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi, I am having the same issue with my E71. Did you figure it out where the oil was coming from? I am about to take the transfer case out and see, but I want to buy any parts that may need to be replace before I do it.

This is going to sounds bad, but I don't remember if I solved the problem or not. Didn't want to leave you hanging without an answer.

X5M transfer case leak

JMX6V8 - what did you come up with? I am having the same issue on my 2011 X5M that xtahoex described to the T. Just R & R'd the servo motor and rebuilt with the BMW repair kit, test drove and still leaking. Could be the output shaft seal but I don't see any drip/seepage at that location.

Sorry to hear about your issues, I have a brand new BMW transfer case for sale, if It could help.

It was purchased with oversight and doesn't fit in my 6 cylinder truck. I also put in a $200 bushing. Part # 27107643752 Please verify fitment! I believe it's from a 2011-13 X5, 8 cylinder, but it will fit other models. The warranty on this unit is two years from its purchase date of May 10th, 2018 No core charge, no tax! Thanks

Thanks,
Bruce

Thanks Bruce. My transfer case is okay. Problem (hopefully) was the O-ring under the washer behind the circlip that is supposed to prevent transfer case lube from leaking thru the splines on the output shaft. Tricky to diagnose because the output shaft seal itself was not leaking.

I'm have a transfer case leak on my 2010 X5M with 140,000 miles. Going to replace the actuator gear and now looking into the output shaft o-ring mentioned above. Any DIY's for this? How difficult is thoi to do?
