CPO Expires in 2 Weeks
Ok, just turned 60k miles on my e70 X5M. CPO Expires in two weeks, i plan on bringing the car in this week for a one last attempt to get things that aren't broken replaced .
A few items that i've noticed: - I smell the classic burning smell (sometimes). The engine bay shield is fully in tact and fine, so it's not that. Do these cars naturally have a slight burning smell? - I followed my girlfriend while she drove my car and at one point i noticed a small amount of white smoke come out of the tail pipes. It was at the beginning of the drive and i didn't notice it again. The real question is, what are some of the other symptoms i could bring up to service? Anything i should have them look at specifically? It's very difficult to get them to tear the engine apart without any specific symptoms, but with that being said, there could be broken items in there that are on the verge of complete failure. Should i pay an indy to do a once over and have dealer fix any real issues?

I'd google grey/white smoke from exhaust and see if you have any other symptoms; if it was at the beginning though it may just be vapor. I understand the anticipation of the warranty expiration, but if things aren't bad then they aren't bad. I was thinking something similar when the wife's E70 went out of warranty...but the most you can do is complete inspection and look for anything wrong.
Check out your Oil Pan gaskets for leaks...those are expensive to replace. Look at any hard lines running to your turbos, or anything that isn't rubber. Do a code check also and look for misfires that could be the injectors. If you can afford the indy then maybe it is worth it to have them do an inspection.

There is a good way to test out the white smoke coming out from the exhaust.
Start the car, let the car idle for 15 minutes....press the gas pedal hard (pass 4500rpm) and if you see severe white smoke coming out from the exhaust that means you probably need to replace the valve stem seals (if you are out of warranty it will cost you over $8000 from the dealership) |

does your M use oil? if it does that could be it, but one little puff of smoke may have just been some water vapor trapped in the system.

then the smoke was more then likely some water vaporizing out of the exhaust.
