How many people went from 3 series to x5?
It seems as a lot of threads I have been reading in the x5 forum are people coming from 3 series, myself included. Wondering how many people made the jump and what was the reasoning.
I switched to the x5 because I love the way BMWs feel and needed something bigger. I didn't plan on getting rid of my 335 but it was totalled in a head on collision and I decided to get the x5 then. I do however miss my 335, as sporty and quick as it was. |

Personally I have not been impressed with the 3 series since the E46 design.
I tried a few times to want to like the 3 series but could not get passed the very harsh ride, even without the sport pack. Plus $40k+ for a cramped vehicle with sooooo lousy cup holders, I bought the X6 over the 3 not because of more room, but because there is clearly more refinement going on at BMW, but only at the 5/6/7 series level. Every time I see a new 3 series, BMW has mananged to cheapen the car up more by having less standard features. There is something terribly wrong when the 3 series ranges in price from $30-$70k+ and that is not including the M3.

My 335i was my first BMW. The X5 will be an addition and not a replacement.

I had the 335 sedan and bought it before my son was born a couple months ago. I already have an 8 year old and the backseat was fine for him, but as soon as the baby came between the car seat and everything else space was limited. i didn't realize how cramped the 3 series rear seats are, although the 5 series (before this year) isn't a whole lot bigger.
I also previously had the e46 330ci before getting the 335. If that car came with the 335 twin turbo engine I would be in love |

I had a '08 335xi... I switched to the X5 35i because I wanted the same type of performance with a larger amount of space. Plus I went from having myself, my wife, my 15 year old step-son, to adding our 4 month old daughter.. The 335 just wasn't cutting it anymore...

Me. My lease was up and I just turned in my Montego Blue 335i for a Carbon Black X5 35i SAV M-Sport. I liked the 3 series, but so far I'm liking the X5 more. It is an amazing car.
Have to take some pictures soon.

E90 335i to E70 X5 35d here. Still miss the E90, but the X5 is more practical...

I have been all over the range. I am driving a 328xi Touring now - had an E70 4.8 before that but when the lease was up I was not sure about where I would be working and did not want an E70 in Europe (gas is really expensive). I really like the 3 Touring. But having had the comfort and convenience of the E70 there really is no comparison so I have been sniffing around at a new E70.

I replaced my 07 335I E93 with a 07 X5 4.8
Could not be happier... The 335 was fun but cramped... The X fits the bill in many categories...

My wife and I had a kid, and the E92 coupe was no longer practical. Just picked up my new 2011 X5 Sport. What a well rounded vehicle. I love it.

Add me to the list. Just turned in my 08 e90 335xi for my 2011 X5 50i. Kid and dog made the change necessary. Drove the new 550i and liked it but felt it didn't have that much more rear seat room than my 3 series. The GT on the other hand is a great traveling car with nice rear seat room, but not nearly as fun as the X5. The X5 with adaptive drive handles like it is on rails and feels like an indestructible tank. It is a bit heavier and a little less tossable than the 3 but it will suprise the heck out of anyone for being a 5K# SUV. I can't stop smiling when I drive it. The V8 also sounds SO mean. If they only made the 550i sedal sound that way instead of being nearly silent...

Haha, i went from a E39 to a E90 335i LOVED IT!!!, to 550i, and now added E70 4.8
Best to have E90 and E70 together, this way you get 2 opposite and best parts at an affordable price!!!
