That slopestyle judging was a bit off for the men. Didn't really reward degree of difficulty as McMorris and Parrot both did far more difficult runs than Granger. As for the women, that event should not have been run in that wind ... should have been postponed (although for those who did full pulls, the judging was much better than it was for the men).

Was it the wind that caused the women to appear so tame, in comparison to the highlights I saw for the men?

You might know: WTF does the brush do to the ice to make the rock move????????

I think it was the wind ... they generally are a bit tamer than the men, but they really had to back off lots and you saw how difficult it was to land just about anything. When even Jamie Anderson can't pull off two clean runs, there's something fundamentally wrong with the conditions. I have no idea what it's like to be 60 feet in the air and start getting pushed around by the wind, but it can't be good.

As for your curling question, sweeping heats up the ice which reduces the friction so if they need to add speed to the rock they sweep and if it's too heavy (too much speed) they back off. Only curled a few times in my life, but it's definitely harder than it looks (and easy to lose your balance on the ice) ...

So what you're saying is that curling and alcohol don't mix?

I figured sweeping melted the ice, actually increasing friction between the stone and the surface. But sometimes they sweep to move/curl the rock, and sometimes they seem to be doing the same perpendicular to the rock's motion, to slow it down

I think no one really did anything with rails like Red did.
The Canadian guy should have landed that 1620.

Just the opposite, drinking is practically required in rec leagues.

Can someone please explain the whole "Hello Kitty" thing to me. I see these 40+ asian women dressed up wandering around and I'm like WTF? Is this some kind of sex thing or am I overthinking it?

Your overthinking it. When I lived in Singapore in 2000 that started. It's just a cute character that caught on in Asia. I don't get it either.

They are officially used by the Olympics. When athletes win medals, they are presented these stuffed dolls at the site of the event and then all athletes get their real medals in a unified ceremony that evening...

Edit: I assume by Hello Kitty you mean these...
