2012 Delivered with major defects...

Well, I made the decision to trade in my 2009 X6 50 for a 2012 because of the 19 service visits in 21 months. No problem, the kinks are worked out by now. I ordered an identical car because, despite her issues, I love her.

Went to my dealer today to pick it up and discovered a major flaw with the glass in the driver door. The dealer pointed it out, said they tried retinting but it is a glass flaw and they will replace the window or I can live with it. Easy enough, please replace.

Then I inspected the paint. I had issues with the first delivery with a bad finish on the running boards and they said I did it and I had to pay to have them replaced (still ticked). I was really careful this time. Found 14 'fisheye' spots on the rear passenger door and rear quarter panel. Told them bluntly that is was uancceptable to drop $90k on a car with paint flaws. They suggested we finish the paperwork and they would fix it. I suggested they fix it and I would talk again after the work was completed. I asked for my keys back and left. I am really disappointed. This is my first, now almost second, BMW and I can't believe the quality issues. Maybe it's just me.

Check your vehicle before taking delivery. Now I am just sad.

I do agree that the paint job from BMW now is not as good as before. I also find some fisheye spot on the paint.

Agree I have noticed a blemish on my hood, not real noticeable but if you look a certain way you can see it. BMW is not paying enough attention to quality, considering they don't make that many X6's everyone should be as perfect as possible, aint blemishes don't even come close.

Maybe an issue with the US assembly plant? I am assuming they are painted here in the US.

yes I have been to the assembly plant in SC USA. I can confirm the X's are painted in the US. When I picked up my X6 at Perf Deliv Center, my vehicle has a quarter sized paint chip on driver door. They pointed it out and said it was damaged at the plant. My local dealer had it fixed but really didn't do a great job. Left lots of overspray on door and window.

all X6's are assembled and painted at the plant in Spartanburg no matter where they are delivered in the world.

Ummmm....if it were me, I would request ( then demand) an X6 loaner before the paint repairbis cxompleted. . I would not sign papers until whomever is responsible to repairs does so to MY satisfaction. That way if you dont sign papers you have leverage.

As you already have a great car, can they order a new vehicle rather than you accepting a repaired one? You've got to draw the line somewhere.

I have an engine defect.

Even though it is not major, but it still annoys the hell out of me whenever I hear the whining noise (around 2K RPM)

I took it in at least 3 times (spent a total of 3 months), and they still couldn't fix it: "We know that something is definitely wrong there, but we cannot figure out why, neither can BMW."

I have already given up.

I can find numerous flaws in any new car, even a Lexus.

BMW has always had a lot of flaws in there cars. Most folks don't notice or care.

But yes, the paint sucks to begin with, but so does everything else from defective glass, crappy spray painted interior parts in which the paint wears off, to noisy and slow electronic tilt steering wheel motors.

Yes, I really did have 19 service visits, not one repeat problem. 28k miles and I wish the new owner luck. At least I bought them the 100k warranty that I didn't get any refund on...

On the positive side, my 2012 has 212 miles and haven't seen the dealer yet! Woo hoo!
