Should I...

So, my wife and I have an 08 E70 4.8 and as the miles pile up, we're thinking about trading up to a CPO 2011 X6 Xdrive50i W/ 46K miles on it. Options are what we're looking for but the question remains...
Should we put the trigger?

We only have 2 kids (both under 10) and don't live very close to family (so the lack of a third seat isn't a major deal for us). And we're pretty realistic in regards to the storage (trunk) space. Plus, not too many people are throwing more than a few groceries in an X (5 or 6). Anything too dangerous and dirty gets a 2 hr rental from Lowes.

What do you owners think? Have you been pleased with your decision?

I have my 2nd X6 now.

First one was a 2010 X6 35i, and at the time we had a newborn. Loved that car, even did a few road trips in it with luggage, stroller system and all, out to North Carolina from Florida for a week. With 2 kids ageds 5-10 where and no stroller, it would have been no problem.

It's when you have a double stroller and two small kids where it may be small for longer trips, because the strollers (or double stroller) will consume most of the volume of the trunk area. Weekend and day trips are not an issue.

Groceries? I once filled my X6 with an entire Costco shopping, including (with back seat folded down) a full size Traeger smoker grill which I had to take out of the box but it fit!

It drives like a car more than an SUV, amazing what BMW did to make the X6 drive and handle the way it does. We sold it and got my wife a bigger SUV before child #2 but I missed my X6 after that.

My wife's only complaint with the X6 was the coupe shape made getting the kid/car seat in and out of the car was annoying.

Now I have a '13 X6M and love it even more than my X6 35i, whole different car. I got the 3 back seats option, put two car seats in it regularly, no issues. Gets the kids to school faster than anyone else

I say go for it, but I am biased as X6 is one of my favorite cars out there, so much that I got a second one!

Trunk on X6 is not that small
While it's smaller than X5s, It's a lot bigger than X3s
I have 2 small kids and it's more than enough space for any trip, even with large stroller

Thanks fellas,
Like you guys, the space isn't really as much an issue as the overall happiness of owning the vehicle. I have the option of getting the above vehicle with the following specs:

Sport, Premium, Cold Weather, Premium Sound, and Rear Climate and Comfort Access

All of this, CPO, for under $48K. Seems like a hell of deal, but the fear of buying a "toy" is giving me the "pucker factor." From a dollars standpoint, the payments will be the exact same (+/- $10) as I'm paying on the E70.

I would definitely not classify an X6 as a toy. I think that would be going a bit too far... the Z4, or an M3, those are toys... X6 has a lot of utility and is the more stylish, better looking, yet less practical big brother of the X5. Also much less soccer-mom-ish than X5

A good tradeoff.
