Radar Mirror Tap

Anyone have tips on how to separate the mirror housing? It seems to require a lot of force and dont want to break any tabs.

Do I just pry it or is there something I am doing wrong any help would be great.

Thanks

Which mirror...the exterior side view mirrors...or the interior rear view mirror? Its not clear as to what you're trying to accomplish...a bit more info to clarify your "project" may get more results from the forum with suggestion etc.

For instance, if you are trying to install a radar detector and supply power to it...you just need to tap into a wire above the headliner that can supply 12v. There's lots of past threads that should cover this.

Apologies. Mirror Tap on rear view mirror for Radar mounting. I have done it with my M6 and took me 5 mins. Was hoping to do the same for X5M but separating the case seemed challenging and do not want to risk breaking tabs if I am doing it wrong.

should be pretty straight forward, the plastic cover behind the rear view mirror has a separation line in the middle, just use plastic tool and separate the two sides. I've done it couple years ago are while mounting V1,
just recently I wired up dash cam same way but didn't have to go thru the plastic this time.

Ditto...you can see this "line" in the parts diagram of the multiple configurations of interior rear view mirror base covers (#1 thru #5):

Let me know how it goes, which holes to tap, recently I tried to mirror tab following one of thread here but it wasn't S63 and blew fuse caused all kinds of errors, auto headlight malfunction and topview/review backup camera malfunction not showing any pics. it was nightmare figuring out, after all it was just blown fused, replaced the fuse and everything was working again.

What I followed:
Power = Pin 8 (grey/purple)
Ground = Pin 9 (brown/black)

Had cover one from the photo and that was a pain to pop out.

Broke two tabs regardless how soft or easy I tried.

Tried all configuration and could not get the radar to turn on. Not sure if it's the cable .

Anyone has success with this and which one did you tap?

Thanks all for the input.

Please don't take offense to this question because we're not there to visually see what you're doing & you didn't mention or indicate it...but did you power up the car?

The 12V power feed from any wiring from the interior rear view mirror requires the ignition to be on.
