BMW X5 Differential fluid - front and back
I have been doing some reading, and I came across articles, recommending that the differential fluid for front and back - apparently, there's 2 places that need to be serviced -- needs to be replaced on a regular basis. Is it necessary? Or is this like the transmission fluid argument? On one hand, BMW has come out and said that the transmission fluid is good for life, but we have owners and expert mechanics claiming that we should replace these lifetime fluids every 50K to 100K. Any input from those who've bitten the bullet and hat these fluids replaced?

I'm new to BMW's but mechanical items are just that, and I have yet to see anyone have problems from fluids being too clean and serviced too often. With that said depending how easy it is to service will be my deciding factor how often I will service mine. I usually serviced all my vehicle at the earliest at 25k, max 50k, unless I did some river crossings or the like but it's been close to 30 years since I did any real off-roading.
To me, it's just cheap insurance. |

I'm afraid you will have to refill it when the warning message comes up, otherwise the car won't move. I think that's how those new X5s are designed.
