Timing Chain Thread
I had my x5m in for some work and I happened to see another in the shop so I obviously wanted to check it out. The entire motor was dropped out of it, first thought was that "this is no good". Started asking some questions and found that the timing chain had stretched and you have to take the motor apart down to its heads to get at it. Supposedly it was a 60 hour job luckily all covered under warranty still. I guess this isn't the first time they had seen it with our motor set up either. I believe they mentioned that a few 6series came in for the same thing. The x5m had 66k miles on it when this occurred.
I'm tossing this out here as a bit of a heads up and also to see if anyone else has had this happen. My warranty is coming up at the end of the year I believe and I would hate to have to foot this bill if it would to occur. I'm already at 77k on my 2010.

Crazy. that could be $6k-8k of labor alone, depending on shop rates. Plus parts. Not sure what I would do at that point. But I guess you really have no choice.
