I don't know russian, but if you look through the diagrams he posted, he actually said something else.

Pin #2 and #4 from the slip ring actually go to #10 and ground respectively: the problem I have with that diagram he posted is that the pin line out is different than ours. So it may not correspond... But it makes me think that the way it's wired depends on whether the paddles are switch or resistance where one single pin carries both up and down.

The connectors I posted they are waterproof: you'll have to unplug the X8532 and disassemble it

Hi there, to your question if you do not have heated steering wheel you cannot turn ON the option simply by swapping with a heated wheel. It requires some extra wiring and coding. Looking at all the people having hard time trouble even getting the pedals too work I can't even vouch if they would work.

I`m not so good in english, but the question is will steering wheel heating work when my last steering wheel did not have that option?

The steering itself will fit. But if you want to enable any features like pedals, heated wheel etc.. then you have to be more precise.

I haven't done it myself so I can't say for sure. But since you will purchase a new wheel with heated option, I don't see a reason why it should not.

Bringing this old thread up to see if anyone solved the paddle shift retrofit. Seems that some coding in addition. To wiring is needed. It appears that the paddle signals are a pass through directly to the transmission. (Not re transmitted as CAN signals) I have installed them on my 4/11 build date 2012 x35i. I have the sport package but it did not work as other have been so lucky to have. I'm the steering wheel is also a heated M and I am close to a heated steering wheel retrofit. I'll post the DIY once complete.

Paddle shift Retrofit success (partial)

So after spending $30 looking at BMW WDS and a day looking at 100 schematics I realized that I did not even need a retrofit harness for my 4/2011 (MY 2012) build E70 X35i. I can verify as the OP that the paddle shifts works on my LCI and without any coding.

Now the devil is in the details and I am still not sure how the OPs DCT paddles worked as they are completely different than the paddles for the
non-M E70. I chalk it up to the myriad of configurations for wiring and the mechatronics pin out even within a LCI model. I think the OPs mech module uses pin 4 and 5 of the transmission with a pulse to ground instead of the usual resistance to pin 10. (the orange pigtail harness in the picture has the needed resistors)

In addition as stated on another post I have also figured out the heated steering retrofit for the E70. I will post a DIY for both once I tackle and complete them.

Paddle shifters work like a charm. In drive they go to manual momentarily and with the console lever in D/S they become full manual controls.

Well unfortunately it did not work.

Removing the airbag and wheel was simple enough. All the connectors were the same, except for the black 6 pin from the paddle shift wheel. I noticed that it had 6 wires to the connector, while the non paddle wheel had 4 wires to it's 6 pin connector. The female part of the connector did have 6 pins visible. This kind of lifted up my hopes because I assumed that the missing wires were for the paddle shift. So since the pins were on the slip ring, I assumed the wiring for the paddles was there.

Ah well at least all the other functions, including heat work. Plus I have a nice looking napa leather wheel. I'm going to keep it until some clever person finds out a way to do this retrofit.

Pictured above is the 6 pin connector from the regular wheel that plugs into the slip ring. Note that it has 4 wires.

And here is the 6 pin connector from the paddle shift wheel with 6 wires. I'm sure the extra wires are for the paddle shift.

I don't know guys. Maybe it needs coding. I will try to see if Okee the remote coder can help. I hope so. I am so convinced that the wiring is already there in the sport package models, and I did see 6 pins on the connector on the slip ring. I did not however remove the steering column cover to see if there were actually 6 wires coming out of the connector.

Bummer!

Did you get the paddle shifters to work. A quick way to see if you are pre wired is to check the voltage between pins 4 and 6 of the clock spring connector. Should be around 5 volts. Even if you do not get a voltage it does not necessarily mean you are not pre wired.

Otherwise it could be as simple as grounding pin 4 of x1880 connector on the back of the szl module and running a wire straight to pin 10 at the transmission connector (under the car). You seem to have the resistance based paddles.

I'm planning to do a DIY in a couple of days. Anyways you will need a coil spring cartridge, a mystery connector (61136954518 - order this now hard to find and lead times), the heated steering with the included heater control, some wires, an optional relay and a couple hours of patience. It's an easy job especially with a DIY.

Well, you've got the LCI thing going for you (a minimum requirement for paddles to work), but w/o at least the Sport Package, I'm not sure….never seen anyone here with a non-sport/M sport LCI do this retrofit and post results.

Honestly the paddles are not that great with the 8 speed - too much shifting. They look cool, and the tri-stitching does look much better so not all is lost if you buy one and install it, and the paddles aren't functional.
