Question Help about turning off a feature

Hey guys, I really don't know how BMW calls the feature of the steering wheel moving forward after you turn off you car, and returning to memory position after you turn on the vehicle?
I understand it was designed to give you more room to get out and get in, but I really find it annoying after a while, so I would love to cancel that feature but can't find how ?
Anyone knows how to turn it off ?

Wow, no idea on that one. Maybe pull a fuse but I doubt that there is one dedicated for this feature. I will look into it.

I agree, this is one almost worthless feature. Especially since it is so slow. Since BMW does not put any grab handles in their X6's, at least mine has none, (more cost cutting?) I find myself using the steering wheel to pull this tired old carcass out of the seat as the wheel retracts. Sooner or later I'm going to over tax the electric motor as it turns. I guess that's one way to stop it.

Same on my side, I use the steering wheel to help myself out, what I do is that when I turn off the car and the steering starts to move, I touch the button the left side and stop the motion, that way I don't have to wait for it next time I start my car........

You know, a couple of months ago I freezed somehow this option for sure made by mistake, but the motion did not worked for a couple of months, but after a service visit to the dealer, the option was working again......I tried to do everything possible without any luck

You could just set it at the furthest poistion away from you and the highest, select the memory and it will not move. Just a thought is that position is comfortable for you.

You've got me by a 1/2 inch and extend the wheel the entire way so know what you mean. I think we just have to enjoy the feature...

different strokes for different folks I guess. I like it in my parents E39 and F01 and wish I had it in my E90

I have owned several BMWs with electric tilt/telescopic steering wheels. Some had iDrive some didn't.

What I noticed, if I adjust the wheel manually to a position I like the wheel eventually loses memory setting and no longer moves automatically.

To reset, I would adjust wheel and press the memory setting buttons again.

I am not sure the exact sequence that causes the loss of memory, but I have be able to do it on a E39 540, E63 645, and now the X6.

If you play around with the wheel enough, memory will disengage.

It hapened to me once by accident, so I don't remember how I did it, but I had that feature off for a couple of months, that is why I'm asking here about it. You explanation sounds logical, I will start playing with the steering wheel trying to loose the memory position.
Keep us posted if you make it !

Well I asked on another forum. And I got a response that you can disable this with a laptop and some software called NCS expert , have you tried that?

It can be disabled through coding. Good luck getting your dealer to do it, though.
