What is everyone using for rear pads?
Just curious to see what the general population of forum members are using for rear brake pads and if you have any feedback. Textar doesn't manufacture their EPad line for the rear on my 35d so I'm left with looking at other options.

OEM w/ ECS Geomet rotors. I tried Akebono Ceramics with the ECS rotors and it was a very spongy brake pedal (I bled the fluid many different ways, no air in my system). I immediately put the OEM's back on and my initial bite and no fade/spongy feeling in the pedal returned, which isolated to the pads.
Very happy with this combination front and rear. |

Centric ceramics on mine front and back. I ain't got time for brake dust on a daily driver.

I'm going to be using OEM pads and rotors. I want the bite of the OEM pads that most aftermarket ones don't have. I don't like how much it dusts but I've learned to live with it.

For those that want OEM feel but less dust, I'd recommend the Textar ePad lineup. Have them on the front and they are excellent. Just wish they made them for the rears, hence the thread.

You're not going to feel any difference in your rear brakes between pad types. The majority of stopping power is in the front. Just get whatever is median price/performance or use ceramic pads for low dust. Centric is the maker of StopTech products btw.

OEM! These "newer" formula brake pads are much lower dusting than old school BMW pads, doesn't bother me.

Unfortunately there is no newer compound rear pads for my application (35d) otherwise I would have bought them by now. I'm loving the Textar ePad fronts I have, would just like to have something very similar for the rear.

Ok the iDrive on my 2012 50i MSport is indicating rear brake replacement. I have just under 40k miles.
I have searched and not found info on my question - Does the first rear brake service typically require pads AND rotors, or just pads? In my experience you always get two sets of pads for the life of each rotor. Alternatively, does anyone have the thickness spec for the rear rotors and I will measure them myself? In searching for parts it seems the 50i take diff parts than the 35i/d so looking for the 50i spec only. Or post both for folks if you have them. Thanks. *** EDIT *** Screw it, just changing pads this (first) change, will do rotors with next set of pads. Oh, as original poster asked, I went with Posi Quiet (Centric) brand semi metallic. Pads were ~$37 at AutoAnything.com. Will try to remember to post results / satisfaction after I do the job.

Pad change went perfectly, Don't notice any diff in driving. Did a few hard stops to try to get them bedded. Smelled some slight burning once back in garage Astounding how hard this tank will stop!
Will update after a more miles. *UPDATE* Two weeks later I feel absolutely no difference in the new pads, and since I never noticed any lack of power from the old ones either, I guess this is a good thing. I only did the rears, so any difference would be much less noticeable than if the fronts had been changed. I rate this a successful maintenance and have already forgotten about it.

Thanks for the updates guys. Been running my Akebonos in the rear for a while now and I'm pretty happy myself. Thinking of trying the same setup on my daily E46 as the Axxis pads on that are horrible in comparison.
