Question X6M Brake dust

Does anyone know of a product I can use on the wheels that repels brake dust? If I clean the wheels I get about two, maybe three drives out of it before they are discolored from the brake dust. GRRR!

Anyone have any special solutions they know of - anything magic?

I will be forever grateful!

Thanks,
-S

Best thing to do is get the wheels coated with Opti-Coat. Will make cleaning wheels much easier. You can also check out Youtube - search using OC 2.0 or opti-coat

coating the wheels won't reduce the dust.

To do that, swap out the OEM brake pads for some Akebonos. You'll be much happier.

Wheel Wax is also a good, low cost option.

It's not permanent like Opti-coat, but it's easier to apply and lasts 4-6 weeks.

I agree, you will be happier related to amount of brake dust; however, there are no after-market brake pads or brake rotors that will give you better braking power than original BMW oem. I am talking from my past experience, believe me ...

i agree three
i opti coated my gloss blk painted wheels not for repelling dust, but to protect the paint.
oem pad generates dust crazy, basically 2 days after wash my wheel start look ghetto again.
i know cool carbon dont make low dust pads for our cars, but seems like ebc red stuff do...

I didn't say coating would reduce dust. I said it will make cleaning wheels much easier

thats true too. Less dust by swapping out OEM brake pads...the trade off is less braking power.

Perhaps. But I've swapped to non-OEM pads on my 50i and cannot tell the difference. I'm sure a real test of brake distances has not been performed, but I'd be willing to bet there wouldn't be much difference in a 60 mph stop.
