S63 into 2012 E70 X5

Is this something that anyone has done or attempted? I have 2012 X5 50I that I would love to have the F85 X5M engine in. Would this bee too much of a hassle. Please would like to get some input.

Never seen it attempted on this forum. Sounds like way too much of a hassle, and expense. Even if you could find an S63, it would cost a small fortune.

With the prices of the e70 M's coming down your better off just buying an M, I know that's not what you want to hear but the cost and hassle to do the job I would bet you'd break even after all said and done. Theirs sometimes a lot of small differences between the two engines that the cost of the retrofit could spiral out of control unless you had a wrecked M and a 50i with a blown engine and just swapped everything when you had the time.

With the complexities with these newer cars, engine swaps are more and more of a chore than the muscle cars of the past.

It's never just an engine ! Theirs so many small little things that aren't seen or thought of. All the little stuff can literally be the deciding factor when all said and done.

Thats what I figured. I have a 2016 X5M and also have a 2012 X5 50I that is begging to consume A LOT of oil due to bad valve stem seals. I would love for both of them to have the New X5M engine lol Their is an engine for sale on eBay right now from a wrecked X5M

You're better off dropping in an LSx engine, and running a standalone engine management system than trying to make all the computer systems and wiring work with a different BMW engine.

First off the F85 is an S63TU, not an S63, so let's make that clear first...same architecture, wildly different from there. Secondly it'd be cheaper to just mod what you've got since doing that swap would be total trial and error at some shops $100+ an hour shop rate = they learn on your dime. Thirdly just run over to the F10 550 boards and see what they're doing over there...they're pushing the limits of the N63TU and you'd likely be happy with the power results. At the end of the day, even with the engine swap done, you've still got an entire frame, suspension, electronics, etc that aren't ///M.

Valve stem seals is like $2k with upgraded gaskets so it won't happen again...I'm sure that's still cheaper than a used S63TU and you'd have money left over for tune, JB4, BCM and meth.
