Won't shift out of Park?!?
Just over the weekend, my 2010 didn't want to shift out of Park for some odd reason. I started it up in the parking lot after making a quick stop in the store, released the parking break, and tried to shift into Drive. Nothing happens! No error screen on the idrive, no CEL, nothing. After a minute or 2 of trying to shift it into reverse, neutral, or drive, I just turned it off. Then turned it back on and presto...shifted like nothing was wrong.
Anyone with this problem? Is this a precursor to a failing component or just a freak incident? |

I don't get it if the problem is fixed, why keep complaining about it...if you're that paranoid the first thing I'd suggest doing is calling your dealer! this is how German technology works

also responded on another forum:
This has happened to me a handful of times (maybe 5) in the 5 years I've had it. First time was 1-2 years in so it's not really a sign of something "starting to fail". Each time it's fine after re-starting. Think it's just an electronic glitch. If it were because the door is ajar, it would still shift to D, then shift you back to P when you start rolling and put up a message.
