Should I Worry?
2010 X5, 35d. The diesel has been wonderful, currently at 112,000 mi. Over the years I have taken great care of her. Have had some minor issues, trunk motor replaced, front end bushings worn and replaced, little stuff. Want to to take it on a 1800 mi trip and am suddenly worried about it, due to the mileage. Should I be concerned? Am I just getting mileage paranoia?

Renting a similar Japanese or Korean SUV from a Avis/Hertz/Enterprise would be a far smarter move. If you can't afford the rental then you can't afford a used X5 |

I've seen tons of high mileage X5d's on here... from what I hear, they're pretty reliable at higher miles. But best for another X5d owner to chime in.

Yes.
110k mi aint nothing, especially on a diesel, so no need to worry about it (unless you know you already have problems then you should be handling those anyhow). Before I left I'd just make sure I was good on fluids (including DEF), verified the belts were in good condition, & then hit the road. Side note: Last fall we took mine, which had around 130k mi on it at that time, on a quick 1,400mi trip. Trip covered mostly remote desert roads that I drove it for hours & hours faster than I will admit to in writing here. The X5 is an OUTSTANDING road trip vehicle, leaving it at home for a typical rental car is a major step down in my book. Of course there are other considerations a lot of time (gas mileage, not wanting to put excessive miles on own vehicle if trip is long mileage wise, but short in days, etc). |

I see no issues with a long road trip as long as you have maintained the vehicle. I moved from VA to CO back in Oct'20 and 35d was flawless the entire way towing. I did make sure a bunch of things were squared away before making the journey.
If you haven't looked at your harmonic balancer yet, I would consider replacing that. Make sure all your fluids are up-to-date (i.e., DEF filled, brake fluid, power steering, etc.) Make sure your belts are good. I did every fluid throughout the vehicle (differential, transmission, transfer case, power steering, brake, oil, etc.) Fuel filter replaced and harmonic balancer replaced. 35d is a solid vehicle don't be afraid! I plan on making a journey back to the east coast in June for about a month. If you are not towing, enjoy the highway MPG! Set it on cruise control and watch as you get almost 600 miles to the tank. |

If all maintenance is done you have nothing to worry about. From June-October I put on nearly 10,000km in road trips driving through the mountainous areas between BC and Alberta.

If I own ANY car , let alone all my past BMW's, and I can not trust it to take me on a road trip, it doesnt belong in my possession. My cars need to commute and go for the long haul at any moment I choose. If you have taken great care of her, why worry?. Things happen regardless of mileage. The M57 has been a long running platform in various model of cars. I say go for it and dont worry.

- The failure could've been prevented if I had known to check for that ahead of time (preventatively replaced) - The unexpected limp mode condition I ended up with could've been prevented if I'd had known that the weird exhaust flutter & faint strange vibration I'd been experiencing for probably 3 weeks was the harmonic balancer going out. |
