X5 winter tires?

I was wondering if anyone could recommend which tire is better. I am looking at either the Dunlop Grandtrek WT M3 ROF or the Blizzak LM-60 RFT in 255/55/18? Thanks for any suggestions. They are roughly the same price on Tire rack.

Consider NOKIAN. Probably the best all around winter tire you can buy. Great handling, great wear, outstanding wet weather traction, outstanding snow traction, increased gas milage.

Are you using stock rims for the winter tires or buying other oem rims? I saw someone on here with TSW's for his winter setup and it looked great!

I am guessing Jamonge lives in Jersey and from his avatar pic runs 20" 214s with summer tires on. He needs snow tires because the summer tires DO NOT function in the snow and ice and are dangerous. AWD, FWD, RWD do not matter when the wrong tires are chosen. A rear wheel drive5 series with snow tires will run rings around an X5 with the summer tires in any snow or ice.

Safety first. Multiple articles out there showing summer tires are best in dry conditions and wet conditions and winter tires are best in snow and ice and all seasons aren't good in any conditions

Kidding...All-Seasons are a fine alternative, but if you can, dedicated summer/winter setups work better.

To answer your original question...

The Blizzaks are probably better in snow and ice and the Dunlops are probably better handling tires. I had the M3s on my 335xi and they were great. NO issues at all.

I'll say that I have the LM-60's on my E90 RWD. I made it through some serious snow the past two winters and a lot of ice too. The LM-60's are also performance snow tires but have a less aggressive tread and may be biased more towards snow traction. I will say that I've run them for two winters and I can hardly tell that I wore off any tread and I drive moderately aggressive.

I was thinking about some blazzaks for a winter set-up. But now I'm thinking about some all seasons in case I want to road trip it south for some warmth. I hate wheel/ tires choices! Took me 2 months last car. I'm really liking these though.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20-BM...ht_7242wt_1167

I've got Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snows on our X5. Blizzaks on the ML. No complaints with either tire.
