blackout chrome trim?

Ive seen a lot of people with blackened trim around their windows on their X6. I have chrome and I'm wanting it to be black. I tried ordering from BMW and they quoted me over $4000 for new parts (Im in Australia). Seems ridiculous. Id prefer to put a new exhaust on my car.

Ive also spoken to a car wrapping place and they said they want to stay away from wrapping it as its so fiddly and very difficult.

And I've heard painting has its difficulties as removing the trim is hard without damaging it, and paint can chip.

I'm wondering how everyone else is changing theirs to black?

I will post pictures of my X6 50 once I'm finishing blacking everything out!
Its looking mean so far.

Also, any tips on black side steps would be appreciated as well.

Here in the US a lot of owners and dealers order the car with the "Sports Package" which has the black instead of chrome. Personally had the black on the last X6 and did not like it. The chrome makes our new X6 stand out from all the others in town!

Best of luck, I would think that removal would be the biggest problem.

Is Plasti Dip really that durable?
Last thing I want is it peeling all the time.

Painting is not so dificult, I paid like $100 US Dollars for the windows trim, not so dificult to take off, any body shop will do it easily
Good luck!

It is a great product, there are two ways to use it, directly to the trim, or using their own primer, this second choice is a permanent work, the first one still has the option to peel it off

Plasti dip will hold without a doubt. It's really easy to do with zero experience. Plus it's reversible so if you hate it....take it off. I'm up in Canada and my rims, trim, rear diffuser and exhaust done. Has held up in a nasty Canadian winter without any problems. I just figure when I sell it, not everyone will share my taste. So this gives them the option. Plus, lots of colors and finishes to play with.

Shadow line 3M vinyl tape. Hold up real nice...don't like it rip it off.

Plasti dipped my Audi S4 grills and trim. Holds up nice, more work than the shadow line 3M vinyl.

Just don't get too close with powerwasher spray tip or both will come off.

I used the product above on my 5 series. I was very happy with the outcome. It's pretty simple to install as long as you take your time.
