Can someone tell me what are the possible causes for engine whine?
It louder when is cold out and more at low rpm. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. |

Bearings on the pulleys, it can be the Alternator pulley, Idler pulley, belt tensioner pulley, etc.

Yes and no, i do have that whine but it doesnt get louder with higher rpms, it also sounds worse when its colder. i think i will start by taking he belt off and check the pulleys and see if that would be the issue. because oil pump sounds like a big job.

Did you ever find out what caused that whining noise? I also have a very similar sounding whine coming from my E70 X5M. It’s more pronounced at low speed/low rpm and cold starts.
