Extended Warranty for X6M?

My 2012 X6M is a month off from the expiration of the factory/standard warranty (delivery date April 2011). I've got only 39,000 miles on it, and I will probably have it for about another year before switching to another car. Do y'all think it's worth buying 1 year of extended warranty from BMW? My dealer quoted me about $4500 for the "platinum" contract extension. I'm hesitant to own the M out of warranty, since I bet the repairs would be expensive--but $4500? It's been a fairly hassle-free car so far (biggest issues have been a cracked wheel bearing and dirty engine breather lines). Let me know what y'all think. Thanks!

No one can answer this question accurately since you the only person that knows your tolerance of risk.

though, my rule of thumbs if the car is trouble free for 4-years unlikely the next 1 year(you say almost for sure you will trade it in then) it will just start falling apart completely. If I were you, I forgo the warranty and just trade it when the trouble starts to appear.

Why would a 4-5 yr old car with under 50k miles just completely start falling apart just because the warranty is about to run out?? My E46(2002) M3 has over 130k miles and has been trouble free since 2005 when i bought it with 15k miles. As long as you take care of the car and don't beat the shit out of it EVERYDAY, it should be fine imo

In same situation my guy told me don't do it too expensive and for the most part the Ms are built really well. More then likey anything that goes wrong will not cost 4500. you can do the Power train for 2800 for 1 year. set aside 4500 and boom your insurance policy

I will note this - my 2009 M3 had just under 50k miles when I sold it, and I had planned on keeping it for basically ever - loved the car - but took it into the dealer for a service quote and they gave me a $3500 bill - with the only thing WRONG with it being a $200 replacement of one of the bushings. Rest of the stuff was just services that would have been handled under the BMW Service (think it was Service II maintenance trip?) Obviously I said no thanks.

Points being 1) as always, find a great non-dealer place to get your non-warrantied M serviced if you are keeping it, but 2) as we all know, repairing M anything is expensive, and 3) $4500 for only 1 yr seems high. If the car were new you could probably negotiate 2-3 years onto the end of the factory warranty for the $4500-7000 ballpark.

Which leads to the next question of whether or not you'd consider trading the car in to pick up another with the warranty on the front end. Or, if it's a lease, buying the car at lease termination and getting them to CPO it.

That's the problem with BMW service level 1, 2 or even 3 at around 30k, 60k and 90k miles.

I asked for list of level-2 service, the one page sheet listed all inspection only (no replacement of fluid or parts) and it cost $1400 for an X5. I could do all that on my own garage in one afternoon, seriously.

IMHO, BMW drivers are now pigeon-holed into two groups, DIY and lease.
