Clicking Noise

Background on my car:
82xxx miles
NO CEL
Only warning was a low oil light. I ordered a oil kit.
The car was sitting for awhile and I started it. It started to make this noise on the passenger side of the car. When you rev the car sounds fine (only issue I notice is that car will bounce up in revs) I let the car sit for 40 minutes and the sound went away.

Any thoughts?

The sound is very similar to the problem with the VANOS system. For engines n55 have recall on this issue.

I believe those systems rely on oil pressure to work, if it sat that long it was likely totally dry up in there. Once you got the oil warmed up and flowing it went away.
Still, you should seek dealer attention as its a warrantied fix.

so just found out that that recall was done. Ugh, back to diagnosing the car. Thanks for the help guys. Will start with a oil change and see what comes of it.

Inspect your oil filter, or just change it.
Inspect your VANOS solenoids and clean them.
Inspect oil level.
Inspect oil filter cap insert or o ring. The green one must be there.

If all these are okay, you possibly have the dreaded intake camshaft ledge seals.

So you have hesitation in low gears? Most non responsive? Low mpg?

Scan your car for codes. You probably have VANOS codes.

Also ensure you are using an approved oil for BMW

I currently have no drivetrain CEL codes. Is the intake camshaft ledge seal a issue with the N55 motor? Also, I am having hesitation in low gear and low mpg.. might have to look into it.
