Project : Sapphire to Pearl
Bought my 08 4.8i just over a year ago. Decided to drive it for a year before I got too into modding it. Owning a collision shop means I have a hand in many projects but rarely my own. Since it's been about 5 years since I did my own I thought I would go a bit crazy on my daily grocery getter. I will post a timeline from Feb 2010 to current. Maybe I can inspire someone to go a little crazy on their current ride instead of always looking at 'the new model' or whatever. It's not for everyone to jump into a huge project but sometimes if the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you should get busy putting in work. I look forward to comments, criticism, or flaming.
The first run of pictures is the day I got it followed by the first few mods. These are all iPhone pics so don't be too hard on me for the quality... |

Then last summer I decided to lower the 4x4 with some H&R and get some spacers. I installed a 1.2" kit which actually lowered it 1.75" in the front due to the heavy v8, I just adjusted the links in the rear to sit evenly. I decided to smoke the tails because I prefer these older lamps to the LCI ones. The script (4.8i and X5) emblems were also removed. 30mm spacers in the rear and 25mm in the front, no rubbing - no shaking.

So after a winter vacation I decided it was time to gut tear it down and get busy on some dramatic changes. I always liked frozen grey so I sprayed out the new Aventador color with satin clear and I liked it but I always seem to paint things grey...so along came satin pearl white. I started with bianco canopus from the satin Gallardo's and designed my own pearlcoat for the desired effect.

I like the wheels!
Should look insanely aggressive in frozen; can't wait to see more pics! You should do something with the interior trim too : ) |

Alright well next I had to complete my removal of parts and paint inner doors and get smoothing out textured plastic. I pondered spending $$$ on proper m-sport stuff but after weighing the options it wasn't worth the effort for me. I did swap out the door moldings for the flatter m-sport versions.

For those not too familiar with the paint process: some paint colors have pearls and metallics mixed into the color, in the case of this and most pearl white there is a base color sprayed with a pearly mid-coat sprayed overtop before clearcoat. The first shot is the white base which in itself would have been a nice color. The pearl mix was my own special flavor and you can see the dramatic affect it had even before clearcoat.

Ha yeah I did drive it around the lot a bit, every error message under the sun. Every part I took off made me wonder if it would reach the point of not starting any more.
So next was kick the body out of the booth and get the parts going. I am really happy with the way the textured trim worked out. I like the M-sport package but in this case it wasn't worth the expense. |

I guess this is about the time I ordered a set of 22" staggered ADV1's, a special thanks to Jordan@ADV1 for his attention to my order. I am hoping to have them sometime in May and will post final photoshoot when they arrive. Carrying on...
With most things painted I got busy late nights assembling the body. |
