Got the CEL today and the reduced engine power message in idrive. Shut it down and turnd it back in and the CEL went away and seemed to be fine. When I had the CEL and the idrive warning the whole vehicle was shaking.
Spaceballs do you have the SID? I called the dealer and they won't replace all the injectors, just the failing one, maybe the SID will help. Thanks |

I guess that leaves a couple other potential causes - the detergents the companies are putting in the fuel that act as supposed cleaning agents are causing the injectors to get gummed up; or, the injectors themselves are a bad design. I'm going with the latter. |

So does this also mean using fuel injector cleaner in each tank of gas once a month is a bad idea? On a recent dealer visit when I discussed the injector issues the service adviser suggested that I should get the fuel injection cleaning service that they offer.... |

Here is something else to add, recently I just had a regular schedule service done. At 24000 miles dealer told me that part of the service includes spark plugs, I was like what? Really? The dealer said yes these high performance engines require spark plug replacement at a shorter interval. Really? Anyone else heard of this?
In any case prior to the service the car was not running strong, black marks around the bumper near exhaust top so I knew the injectors is messing up again. After the service the car ran just as slow and lack of performance which is what i expected because the adpative values needs to be reset every time anything is replaced, so the DME goes back to factory map setting. After couple of days the engine really came back to life again, it's now pulling strong just like the way it should be. So something to do with spark plugs too? |

^For sure. If you look at the N54 and N55's, plugs and coil packs are the first things to get swapped out when the car is misfiring. I had to do mine a couple of times as well, and of course earlier than the recommended service interval. If you tune the engine, the misfire onset is that much earlier too....
The combination of injectors/plugs/coils is pretty weak on these engines. |

I too had all 8 injectors replaced and then the next day the SA calls to tell me that the problem wasn't fixed, so they then replaced the HPFP. It's been about three months since the repair with no ill effects.

My car was fine after the injectors were replaced for about 6 month, and then slowly the bumper started to darken. And just get worst from that point then you would start to feel loose of power etc...
When the engine is working properly the car should feel very "light", slight push of the gas would get the car going quickly and as you gradually push the throttle you can feel the surge in power and the pull of the turbo as it kicks in. Since the issue slowly deteriorates the power performance we don't really feel it right away. So most people thinks everything is fine. It's not until you drive a healthy car that's when you realize how much power you were down. |

2013 X5M Bad Injectors
I also experienced rough starts and vibration on idle and engine light on. Also had bad exhaust smell after start up. I haven't noticed black on exhaust pipe. Dealer has indicated bad fuel injectors and they will replace. 22,000 miles.

I got another CEL on my way home from work, have an appointment tomorrow. I think I must have a completely dead injector now. While driving the whole vehicle started to vibrate violently and the CEL started flashing. Looking forward to getting this issue fixed!

I got the impression from the SA that they were aware of the issue and that is why the bullitn SpaceBalls posted was issued. He said they would scan each of my injectors and if they werent the updated ones they would be replaced.
I will report back with what work actually gets done. |

From my experience I know they are aware of the issue but don't have a solution but to replace the injectors as they become faulty. Who is going to fork out the bill after the warranty expires?

My X5 is leased and it will be getting turned back in when the lease is up. This issue alone has scared me away from buying it off the lease....

Got the vehicle back today. All 8 injectors and the decoupling elements were replaced per the SIB posted above. Oddly, the plugs were not replaced.
When I got in it at the dealership the "Engine Hot" warning was on but it promptly went away, I should have just handed it right back to them, but because it went away and stayed off I figured maybe it was a fluke. Wrong! Now, every time I start it, even with the engine cold it says "Engine Hot"! I am guessing they damaged a sensor while replacing the injectors, so it's going back ASAP....annoying! |

So they say the hot engine warning was caused by a failing coolant pump to one if the turbos...overnighted the part and will be fixed tomorrow, hope this is the last problem...

I had a bad injector about 2 months ago, kept seeing more than usual black soot on rear bumper. CEL final came on last week (17000 miles) - they claimed they had to 'reprogram' the engine, I went to pick up the car on Saturday, it idled extremely rough on start up - smoothed out and I started to drove it home when the CEL came on 15 miles later - back to the shop I went - they've had the car for 2 days and now tell me I now have 4 bad injectors #1-#4 (took an extra day to get them - claimed they were on backorder), they called today to ask if I could leave the car for a couple of days as "the shop forman says the fault can also set when the car sits for a few days"..........like others on this forum - if they know the injectors are bad, especially since this is the second time I've had it in for repair - you'd think they would just go ahead and replace all them..........stay tuned, I'll post again once I finally get the car back. 2013 X5 5.0i.

Got the car back - SO states "recovererd fault from 02 sensor coasting 2C2D. Ran test plan, states fault could be from injectors, Bank 2 injectors have already been replaced. Ran test plan and retrieved Diag Code D1350-00000000-01-001 - to replace faulty injectors. Replaced all Bank 1 injectors with 'upgraded' injectors. Calibrated injectors, reset adaptations and erased faults, test drive."
Installed Qty 4 - Injector # 135030 Installed Qty 6 - Decoupling Element # 13509953 Car now idles fine after cold start, seems to run fine/smooth, no noticeable black soot yet on rear bumper. So far so good. |
