X5 E70 2008 Wierd tail light problem
This is the pre-LCI model, and my outer right rear tail light lives its own life.
Its the LED part of the cluster, and it does not seem to be to happy with staying lit. It lights up during the leaving home fuction, and it also stays on for a random amount of time after engine start up, and then it goes dark .. and it lights up..and it goes dark. Obviously there is a bad connection somewhere, but where ? I have removed the cluster, but there is no visible og physical signs of a bad connection there. Could there be a wiring error, so that buying a new tail light cluster would be a waste of money ? Anybody else encountered this mickey mouse problem ? |

Wonder if its the same issue as the inner tail light. The board and contacts corroded on mine and I needed to replace the entire inner light. I read its a faily common issue for the inner. May be a similar issue with the LED on the outer?

My guess is that it is just a bad connection. Take it apart again and go over each and every connection and check the continuity with an ohmmeter. I had the same problem on my 2012 X5 but it was the inner light on the passenger side which is the LED light. The outer light has incandescent light bulbs. It was an on and off thing at random. I fixed it, but the bad connection was subtle - one side of the connector slightly pulled and twisted. Good luck!

Thanks guys .. IŽm getting the LCI tail lights either way.. so I guess IŽll just make the swap and see if things work out.. If not IŽll have to go thru the harness for errors I guess.
Anyone knows if the harness for the rear right light is a single harness module, so that it is easy to swap ? Hopefully it is possible to swap it from the rear fuse box area, so I dont have to pull the trim and put down new wires all the way to the foot weel/engine bay. |
