X5M F/R Brake Retrofit on 35d/35i experience

I'm interested in comments from anyone who has done this. I've read a few posts that suggest the front is pretty straight forward and bolts right on, but the rear may be a bit more challenging. I have a 2013 35d sport - 20" 214s. Thanks

Nothing unique about the rears since they are the same, just not painted.

Just waiting for the weather to get a little nicer here and will be installing shortly along with ecs ss brake lines. As far as I know, you need to have the correct caliper carrier for the rear calipers to fit over the larger rotors.

I went with the M performance retrofit kit for the f15, which comes with all the calipers/carriers/dust shields/ supporting hardware and will mount up to the e70. Was able to sell the rotors that came with the kit and picked up some F85 rotors for a bit more.

Smyles - to be clear, you're saying the E70 M rear brakes are the same as the non-M? I was thinking the M had a larger rotor and thus a different caliper and potential mounting.

Same rear calipers but larger rotors. The caliper carriers from the M is what gives you the additional clearance needed (part# 34217847226 / piece left of the rear caliper in the pic). It is also necessary to have ISTA so you can run the bleed/dsc routine to properly bleed the brake system, not possible to get 100% of the air out manually.

Yep right on! Need the carriers, their expensive though. Otherwise the calipers are the same.

My set is all painted and ready to go!!!! Can't wait!

I've been running the fronts since 2014 on my 35d. I've gone through one set of pads and rotors I never bothered with the rears

Same as rear that's bolt on as well just need the caliper hangers as the rear calipers are all the same from M to none M. Just have to enlarge the opening of the rotor slightly I think as the M's have a smaller hub ring.

I think last time I checked it was the same part number for both M and standard.

I put the 6 pot 135i calipers on my e85 z4 without issue so BMW seems to make their master cylinder's with big enough fluid reservoirs.

Hey C, no reaming of the rear rotors is needed, they fit the rear hubs fine on my 35d.

Also, if you go with the F85 rotors be sure to order two set screws for the front rotors, they have a smaller head than our gen. Current set screw will not tighten flush BMW - 34111123072 M8x12mm hex bolt

How is that possible if the rear hubs on an X5M are 72.6 vs 74.1 on the standard X5 models?

Possible my friend! Opening on both sets of rotors are 75mm and fit hub perfectly. If using F85 rotors cant use set screw in the rear and need new ones without a flange for the front, but direct bolt up otherwise!

lesson of the day was - use anti-seize on spacers !!

Good to know. Don't get me wrong I wasn't doubting you since you had done the conversion but the hub size being different one would have assumed the rotors wouldn't have fit. I wonder if the X5M has a tapered hub???

So this mod is actually 100% bolt-on. Which is really nice. Are there any other pad options for the front aside from OEM? I enjoy not having to wash my wheels after every trip.

Was hoping hawk made ceramics for the fronts since I already had a set for the rear but no luck so ended up using oe f/r. Other than that I haven't seen any other options for the fronts.
