X5 M Starter

Tried searching but came up empty handed.
I'm suspecting that my starter is going out. Sporadically, it makes some noise during start up.

Has anyone try to DIY this? If not, how much did it run you to get it done?

After doing the injectors on this thing myself I feel like I can tackle anything...but I read somewhere that for the starter to be replaced the engine or tranny need to be lowered. If true then it's beyond what I can do myself.

Thanks in advance guys.

I would probably say that starter in x5 is in a different placement than x5m.

I did the starter on my x5 e70 LCI and it was a hard job. Didn't have to lower the engine or tranny. The starter sits in the middle of the engine and you have to disassemble a ton of parts and need a special extension. It can be done because I did it, I'm no mechanic but it was a hard job.

I wonder if on the M it's in the same location?

It would be in the same place if you have the N63. Is that the case?

I had this issue but it only did it on cold start up when its was below 30. It would not do it if the temps were warm. i was lucky it was under warranty and they were able to replicate the issue after keeping the car for a week, chances are you will be just fine but its an 8 hour job

Yeah, it's definitely during cold start-up in low temps...and it doesn't happen always.
