It's because it's a low demand niche item. I don't think there is another platform that uses the same size specs for any of the X5M parts. If the M5 had the same size rotors, same size air-take, etc, then we would have a lot more aftermaket parts.

Yeah I know... I was just venting... I'm not asking for much, but hell, a set of StopTech pads would be nice... I really like their pads...
Anyone have any feedback on the EBC pads? Did they ever start shipping the fronts??

Carbotech makes both front and rear pads X5M/X6M.

You can order them direct from Carbotech. Bobcat compound 1521.

Bringing this back, hopefully by now these been development and experimenting...
So far when I search I find my options are: Full BBK F85 brake "upgrade" EBC red pads Carbotech? (Have no experience with these) Stock Am I missing anything and does anyone have feedback? I'm looking to simply replace pads & rotors so want to rule out BBK ($). I think I'll weigh on the side of low brake dust over bite since these cars already have plenty of stopping power and I'm not tracking or doing high speed highway runs... Thoughts, suggestions? |

Good to know... No experience with them and haven't heard about them before. Outside of the broad sales pitch, have you tried any of their compounds specifically? As mentioned, going for streetable with low dust and more bite than stock. I don't want noise, so will sacrifice bite to avoid the noise. Seems like the 1521 is the only one that they recommend for street... I've liked the HPS I've had on other cars, and hear good things about EBC red but haven't tried them. |

I personally HATE HATE HATE the HPS pads. But do like the HP Plus. lots of dust, spongy feel, low initial grab on the HPS. Everything wrong about a pad. Never tried the new 5.0 compound yet. May not ever actually...
Carbotech pads are often used on tracks, not so much street. lots of auto-x'ers like them. With that compound you could totally use them on the street, especially when talking about a 5000+lbs vehicle. A whiles back I had to choose on my old track car between those and Porterfield's. I went with the porterfields. I think I would have been fine either way though. |

I noticed that about 90% of the carbotech feedback is from corvette guys.
There's enough positive out there that I may give them a shot. Just the 1521 compound though. |

Does anyone have any persrsonal experience with the carbotech (1521) compared to the stock pads on the X5M? Gonna be purchasing one of the two today. Leaning towards stock as it sits right now to simply "rip the bandaid off" and order everything at once. The stocks seem to be solid pads regardless. Carbotech would also need sensors, correct? |

I'm running the pads posted by m5james - http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....nid=382&jpid=9 -
Zero Noise w/ Zero Dust and $300 vs $25 ... Curious as to why spend more on OEMs or Carbotech when its a street vehicle ... if it was going track then it would obviously be another story. |

Ceramic pads should produce little to no noise and little to no dust. The noise could be coming from rotor squeal if they are worn enough and you put new pads on them |

As an example, better initial bite, lower dust, better performance under hard braking efforts, better performance under high heat environments (downhill towing, etc) Just because it's a "performance," minded pad, it can often achieve many of what I listed above, and at a decent price over OEM pads.

That said, I ended up going OEM... from my rough comparison it seems as though they actually have a bit more bite than the Carbotechs though slightly more dust and noise. ...suppose I also was a little weary paying more for the Carbotechs with the added uncertainty. |

I can't see the justification to running overpriced OEM pads ... Pagid offers the same thing as the OEM ( they are an OEM BMW supplier FYI ) and are $130 ... $150 less than the OEM with the BMW logo that cost $280. But hey it's your money |

I'm due for front pad change. I was going to order the OEM $285 pads till I read the posts on this thread. Now, I am thinking of ordering the EBC redstuff brake pads. Thanks
