i had a lot of fun with it, the engine and sound is amazing, especially with miltek secondary decat, but after a fair bit of hill run driving, i outgrew the chassis and haldex front biased awd. also the dampening and braking at high speed just wasn't good enough. ultimately it left me with feeling that it's a trumped up a3 and not a proper engineered performance product

i'll have a look at the new sedan when it lands, but as much as i loved the engine and sound, i doubt it'll be enough to get me back into a haldex audi. it's a shame as that engine deserves to be rotated 90 degrees with a proper torsen awd setup

Sounds good! Almost as good as our F-Type Rs (I see it listed next to your name)

Haha nothing on the market today for sane money sounds as good as the v8 in the f-type, I honestly think that will be the last time a volume manufacturer can market a car that ott loud with that much crack and bang - next gen jag's will be getting the BMW tt v8, and engines always sound better without somethin hanging off the header

F-type is the best car I've owned to date, and we still get the r in rwd over here

Nice! You on the jag forums by chance?

Here in the States, we're "stuck" with only the AWD version of the R. Still love it though! But I have been curious about the i8 and will be driving one this week.

Yeh I'm on the jag forum

But not much there unless you want to pulley swap and tune

If I had an awd I prob would, in rwd with mpss tyres it'll light up rears pretty easily at stock power in first 4 gears, but it's so smooth and progressive it makes the car so much fun at normal speeds

good idea with the topic move

though f-type r isn't really a direct rival to M4.....the v6 f-type would be a better match in terms of engine size and price

The Moderators created this Thread. Guess they didn't want us to jack the TTRS Thread!

I had an M4 prior to the Jag. I understand where you are coming from, but the M4 would destroy the the stock V6S version. Performance-wise, the M4 would compete with the R. The Jag is just too damn heavy!

Without a doubt one of the best looking and sounding cars on the road.

If it wasn't for the fact I got such a good deal on my M3, the F-type S would have been my next car.

Yeh you're just wasting your time and money with the v6, the real f-type experience is with the sound and power of the v8

I had my order in for a. F pace first edition with the v6 but cancelled after driving it. The v8 just messes with your expectations lol, I'll wait for them to put the v8 in it, or better still in the xe, that chassis with that motor is going to frighten the Germans and their McPherson strut front ends

I've had a lot of dailys, including some big HP jdm stuff, but the jag is easily the best car I've owned to date. I'm surprised by how well it's built and solid it feels on the road, not a squeel or rattle inside. Jaguar know how to suspension tune a car, in fact anything developed on uk roads is going to ride well.

The engine makes the drive an experience at any speed, which is a lost commodity in these days of 0-100 and nurburgring lap times

Ugh these cars make me want to do things with my bank account that would be considered irresponsible. Looks amazing!!!

Yes mine is also stock. The last thing you need to change in this car is the sound

Insane.. sounds Angry as a Mutha. Definitely should not be compared to the M4. All sports 2 seater V8 Loud fast. If only they made a smaller sporty 2 seater that can perform, i would jump on it. Nothing comes to mind to me, even the 991 has become too big.

My local dealer has like three F-Type R's for sale, each being discounted up to $20k off MSRP. I calculated some lease rates and got numbers in the $700s with just drive offs.

Needless to say, I contacted the dealer ASAP. The salesperson said that the $20k discount doesn't apply to leases...

How is the build quality of the F Type?

My brother (who has a 991 GTS) was turned off by the build quality of the F Type R (in comparison to his Porsche)... He mentioned the flimsiness of the door and other things... Not trolling, just wondering because it was a showroom F Type R he examined.

Also, I am curious myself as I think the car is stunning and wouldn't mind one myself...

I agree, the price to performance ratio is not there as well, which does bother me. For F Type S money you can have a GT4 (if you can get one) which is a better car in almost every facet... Type R is a different story of course.

F-type build quality is completely different to the rest of their line up, i'm really happy with it, like i said above no creaks or rattles inside, unlike german cars ive had in the past

When deciding i had a first gen f-type for extended test drive, my car which is now a second generation does have a few little things that have been improved inside the cabin - dial graphics are nicer, centre screen between the dials looks more modern now, they've gotten rid of this bronze trim on paddles in favor of real aluminum, and some minor switchgear and materials are higher quality now

I have a 997.2 gt2 rs, and yes the doors feel more solid when you close them, but all the switchgear in the 911 doesn't feel as high quality as the jag. indicator stalks in 911's still feel as flimsy as they did in a lambo in the 80s - don't get me wrong, the buttons aren't audi laboratory designed for click noise and dampening, but it is better than porsche and other non-germans - new panamera excluded as that thing looks audi quality now

funnily enough i had a new r8 v10+ a couple weeks ago for a drive, and was shocked to see the "alcantara" roof lining was actually sprayed on like felt inside a glovebox. when looking at the sunvisors you could still see the plastic seam. also the dash was a horrible mesh pattern faux leather material. my jag has real suede roof lining and real leather everywhere

BANANAS!!!

Those roads and tunnels are claustrophobic as f*** though.

Yeah... For the $$$ there just isn't as nice of a car OVERALL as the F Type R. And the exhaust note simply puts it over the top.

I’ll give you my opinion on the build quality of f-types, which, will appears to be different then the other posters here but not from the general f-type-owning population. I bought my f-type in 2014, after owning AMGs and Ms, and currently have just over 30k miles. The quality control of the car leaves lots to be desired for a vehicle that runs into the $100k (I have the v-8). The body panels and passenger door do not line up on my vehicle. The paint chips very easily and if you leave bird dropping on there over several hours while driving in the sun, it will “bake” that shape into the clear coating.
I do have leather everywhere but the stitching don’t line up from the dash to the doors. This is a rampant complain with f type owners on their forum. The plastic area near the cup holders feels economy to the touch, and scratches very easily. The temperature knobs and control buttons (active exhaust, spoiler, etc.) have a very cheap, Chevy-like, feel to them. Especially when compared to like a 911 or AMG GT-S (best interior I’ve seen so far in this price bracket).
But the worst feature of the f-types is the electronics. The main interphase looks and acts about ten years behind the rest of the competition. Changing an iPod-connected song with this unit takes 2 second (I’d actually timed it) from the time you hit the arrow until the song actually changes. Nav looks worst than my Dodge’s Durango and there’s no voice control. In fact, I prefer the interior and electronics of my e92 m3 over what’s in my f-type.
With all that said, I love my car for being beautiful, loud, and wild. If you can over look/accept all the flaws -I have- to get all the features that it brings then you’ll be fine. But don’t expect it to be the be-all end-all car. As a weekend, second or third vehicle, I can live with it's short comings but would think differently if I was to have it as the only one car.
