Spark Plug Compatibility
I ordered a set of spark plugs from BMP Design this past January because I've reached the 40000 spark plug maintenance interval as specified in the owner's manual. As I was installing them this morning, I noticed the part numbers on the spark plugs read: ZR5TPP33. After researching the part number, I found it fits the N55 engine and according to the Bridgewater BMW and ECS Tuning websites, the correct number is: ZMR5TPP33 What am I missing here? Most signs point to a shipping failure on BMP Design's part, but I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt because the invoice from them had the product name as: Bosch High Power Spark Plug (ZMR5TPP33) and I saved "2010 BMW X6M" in the stored cars section of my user profile.

Anything ever come of this? I can't seem to find the differences between the ZMR5TPP33 and ZR5TPP33, the M being written on the plug itself being the difference visually but I'm curious if there's ANY other differences besides that. $9 on eBay for $24 on eBay.

I haven't changed mine yet. I don't suppose you compared them side-by-side? My buddy works at the dealership, said one looked longer than the other...ultimately I got them at cost and were like $120.

I'll try that next time, in the meantime I've got 30k to use them for while trying to figure out why I'm still getting reduced power warnings.

Not that I know of as of yet. I got my plugs at cost through a buddy at the a dealership for about $120, but ultimately the non-M plugs can be found for cheaper for like $80. Seeing I still get reduced power warnings, I went with factory this time to be sure they weren't the issue.

BTW, good call on the Rock Auto (Intermotor) injectors. I did mine about 6 months ago but one of your posts led me onto them. |

I'm usually a cheap skate to the core, but this time I didn't cheap out because I haven't seen concrete proof otherwise.
You're welcome...just passing on the information I'd found from others. Ironically BMW finally admitted that they're a failure item in the S63 after I'd already paid for them out of pocket. Since my buddy who works at the dealership replaced them at my house, he used the time BMW alloted him to do other repairs off the books and then since I'd kept my old injectors, he gave me 8 brand new in their boxes so I can recoup my losses. I still have the old injectors, not sure why...I guess maybe I have some hope that I can prove my case for some sort of refund, but I'm not holding my breath. I can't complain I suppose, it was about $900 for the injectors and about $100 for coding...nowhere near some have paid... |

Plugs are fine and no issues, Ive had mine in a week and went to the track with them in, truck has never ran this smooth and as fast. As far as size and appearance they are exact. These plugs are the same plugs used in the n55 engine too, so if you can get 450hp out of them with no problem, then shouldn't be an issue with are engines s63

I kept them for the chance of thinking they'll be rebuildable one day. I also hoped I'd get a refund, but since I bought them aftermarket and paid someone outside the dealership, I knew better. Fortunately my buddy hooked me up there with the BMW recall. While I'd replaced the PCV lines, he had the cats, plugs and everything else back together before I knew it, so I gave him $200...so even at $1100, we're in the same boat in that it's still FAR less than what I've read of others paying. Now I just need to sell these 8 to recoup my costs.

As discussed by m5james, the difference is only of M. After going through your mail I also checked my vehicle's plug number and it is ZMR5TPP33 but still going well. I asked the difference from mechanic and he replied that there is no difference between the two and I can use either one of them.

I've since gone to two step colder NGK 97506 plugs, so I've got a set of factory ///M plugs with maybe 10k on them if anyone needs a replacement set soon.

Great, I've been pushing 20 +/- psi on the daily and no issues/codes (pending or otherwise) anymore since switching.
My .02 is to only go one step colder if on a tune only (I hit 15psi at most with the JB4 off) but if stacked with tune and JB4 (I'm not assuming that 5+ psi will add another 100hp but I'm adding meth VERY soon), NGK says it's better to be safe than sorry I'm following suit and I went two steps.

When I had plugs done, the non M stamped ones gave a misfires under full load, replaced all coils and still misfired. Ended up replacing all of them . Was a complete pain..
