x6 50i vs x6M
If you followed my other thread on my battery problem on my 2009 x6 50i, you might realize that my x6 is now being assumed by the factory and I need to order another one.
Hence, I am faced now with a decision that I did not have in 2009: order the x6 50i again or go for the x6M. Any thoughts on the pros and cons? What is the real cost difference between the two assuming fully optioned up? |

I debated this for a while and just ordered x6 5.0. I think the real issue is the cost. x6m lease rates are just not real as the residual and money factor are much worse. If you can afford to buy x6m and drive it for a long time, then I think you should get it. I just didn't know if I wanted to keep it for more than 5 years so a lease made more sense. I just ordered a very loaded x6 5.0 with nothing down (just multiple security deposits) and my payment is at least $500 better than on an x6m.

I was in the same situation a couple of months ago. Our dealership had an x6 5.0 that I drove, and it was very nice. So I priced both with all of the options that I would want, and there was only about 10-12k difference between the 2. I will be purchasing my vehicle (tax purposes) so I decided to go with the x6m with all of the options that I would want. It is in production so I have not gotten to drive it yet compared to the 5.0, but I will let you know as soon as it arrives!
GL it is a tough but very nice decision to have to make. You really cant go wrong either way. But I was more surprised at how close the final cost was. |

I wish I could see a M as the body seems to look a lot nicer in the photos. Any thoughts? |

The M has enough special features, and standard equipment options, that the extra cost is well worth it in my mind. Especially considering the exclusivity of the vehicle.
To duplicate or approximate the body enhancements and engine/transmission/brakes as well as the M mode software is simply impossible. I would only get a 50i if I was leasing, and I would continue to be leasing. |

BTW, i highly doubt you can see much difference in MPG between these two, especially if you not constantly on gas pedal |

Does the dealership have both models? Let her drive them both before she decides based solely on outside style. Its really hard to decide unless you have driven them both. The outside can always be changed....

I think she is just more of a sedan person plus she never liked how wide the x6 was in the back. |

The X6 IS harder to park than the 5 series, but with top view and improvements to the rear camera its probably gotten better in the X6 from '09 to '11.

550i is a beautiful car, I test drove a CPO they had just for the sake of trying the new 5series. IX is crucial esp with the snow we've been getting this winter, You opting for auto or a 6spd? You really cant go wrong with the 550 its a beautiful v8 and the new interior is the most comfortable since the E39's..
Use it in the best of health, and if you ever see a blacked out 5.0 x5 in your neighborhood be sure to bright me! -RL PS Uncles deli, best deli in Darien
