Joining the club soon...

Need to get through PPI Monday, but have a deposit down on a 2007 4.8 w 40k on the clock. Can't put the convertible through another winter - need a tank!

Pure dumb luck. Drove a bunch of different things yesterday decided ~5P that the X5 4.8 was what I wanted. 15 minutes later, was working a deal for this one. Hell Frontier even had a $40 flight to go pick it up.

Well - the car needs front brakes, fluids and filters, spark plugs, and the biggie is leaking transmission pan and sleeve. All expected stuff on a 2007 car (at least from what I can tell) but $3500 in total at dealer.

Probably not the photos everyone was hoping to see on day one of ownership!

Most of that you could do yourself for MUCH less than $3500, but I understand wanting a fresh start with dealer service.

I say "Most" because while I did my own trans service with ZF fluid and filter/pan, I attempted to replace the mechatronics sleeve (wasn't leaking, but PM is a good thing... right?) and couldn't get the new one seated properly. My hands are too damn big to fit into that little space.

Well the selling dealer did the brakes and my guy here said much less for the transmission - so will have him do that. Drove the car 850 miles to get it home yesterday and it ran like a champ. Today wouldn't start. Hoping fuel pump relay and not something more serious.

Towed to dealer I trust, like you said get it through clean bill of health and off we go. Have a play date scheduled with my nephew to run over some shit and play in the mud so hopefully will be up and running soon.
