Fuel gauge never goes past 18/20

I'm noticing lately that my gas gauge never registers as full - it always stops at tickmark 18 of 20.

I had my gas gauge break on a truck a while ago, but it broke completely (only showed full) - what could this be?

Mine only sometimes registers as full, not sure why. There's other threads on this too, it's not just you and me.

Not sure what you have but on my 2011 X5M, I just recently had the fuel pump replaced under the service campaign and mine now shows full, when full.

My 2012 35i does the same thing. Only time I've ever gotten it to show full was continuing to pump after the pump stops the first time. I would just press it down until it stops again. Did it 3x that way and then it showed full. Don't know what causes it yet but have read others encountered this issue.

As an update on this, I have brought it back for service 3 times.

after replacing a bunch of the fuel system parts, they finally decided it was the instrument cluster, so apparently they replaced that. I'll find out if it actually fixed this afternoon.

So did the gauge replacement end up fixing this issue?
