I needed to fill up with Diesel for first time. The flap inside the fuel hole does not seem to move when the nozzle is inserted. I tried ti fill her up anyway and It seemed to overflow while fully depressed. I tried both standard size nozzle and the smaller version. What could i be doing wrong?

You have to fiddle with it gently so that the nozzle goes all the way in. Some pumps around NY doesn't easily go in but if you finnagle it gentle, it will go through the flap.

Unless ofcourse you notice the nozzle being too big. I had it happen couple of times in MA but that pump was for true commercial trucks.

I have heard of instances on this forum, where some gas stations would install same nozzle for diesel and petrol pumps. That's gotta trigger misfuel prevention on X5.

I have came across the odd nozzle that won't open the flap. Some times it takes a couple tries to get the nozzle in, if you had the nozzle all of the way in and it still overflows that is confusing. You should have a little funnel like piece that will allow you to fit the smaller nozzles if that's the issue.

Spoke to the dealer today and they ordered me that special funnel. It was not in the truck at purchase so they are not charging me for it.

I will give the larger nozzle at gas station another try this weekend. Maybe I have success after reading your suggestions. Thanks!

My local station has a larger nozze that looks like it has some wear or a piece missing on the top edge and for the life of me a cant get it in the flap. So it can be tricky but 8:10 times it isnt an issue.

Spilled some fuel again. Smh. Waiting on that funnel from dealership... I believe the nozzle at local station is just too big cause it doesn't make contact with sensors that are suppose to push flap open. I read about sensors in car manual.
