Oil question, is this normal?
I recently purchased a 2011 X5 5.0 with approx. 40,000 miles on it. I had the oil changed by my dealer at 40,280 miles ( Sept. 14, 2013). The vacuum pump was also found to be leaking oil and that was replaced. 2,000 miles later, my oil level is showing at about 1/4 above the minimum. My Service Advisor is saying that that is normal and I should expect to add oil. It does not sound normal to me. Any ideas / comments? I have a great independent mechanic that I could take it to, but I hate to do that while I am still under warranty. I also hate to let this go as I only have another 7,000 miles until I lose my warranty. Thought?

That sounds normal for the 50i. I get the "oil at minimum level" message every 3,000 miles then I just have the dealer add a quart. This has been consistent for the past 15,000+ miles. Dealer also says this is normal. I believe other members have experienced the same.

I have about 43K miles on my 2011 X5 50i now and that type of oil consumption is pretty much "normal". It still seems high to me, but I guess that it is a BMW thing.
